Any Windows experts on here?
Something VERY odd is happening.
Window still works, as such.
There is still data on the system SSD c: and my storage SSD d:
(though as I will explain some of the OS may be missing)
It first came to my attention when I realised my Da Vinci Resolve projects were missing.
When I asked on a relevant forum I was advised to look in the following directory:
C:\Users\<myuser name>\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Resolve Disk Database
in my case that's
C:\Users\buyus\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Resolve Disk Database
So I looked for that and there's a major problem...
C:\Users\buyus\AppData doesn't exist ! (and therefore all of any theoretical subdirectories)
I looked for FREE file recovery software and with DiskDrill and EaseUS did scans and found that directory and all subdirectoris of it (as well as other folders of missing resolve projects). I think there's a total of around 80 GB or so.
That's when I found out that neither DiskDrill or EaseUS is ACTUALLY free - in fact they are very expensive.
Suggestions are VERY welcome.
Please help if you can - I am super stressed about this.
No idea on davinci, but did find this - any help?

Sorry Vlad, I'm pretty good at mechanical things, but two left thumbs when it comes to software. Hope you get it sorted.
Have you set the view in File Explorer to show hidden folders & files?
As Hooli says. Appdata is a hidden folder.
Ah right I'll have a look at hidden folders tonight and see what's to see. :onya: :onya:
barmy that link is one I've read and it directs to download software which is capable of recovering either none or only 500mb total unless upgrading to pro which is VERY expensive.
I used "recuva" but it only restored 1/3 of the files it found and none of those was a drp file Weird.
I DID find my folder which (having unhidden files) appears to have db files in it (when navigating via explorer) but these do NOT show up in resolve. I'm chasing that up on the resolve forum, thanks all.
OK so I am about to nuke my SSDs to blank and install Win 11 and start from scratch (yes I backed up my data)
If you don't see me on here for a few days that'll be why....
wish me luck.
