Title: Gear indicator again...
Post by: Will14 on Friday, 06 August 2021, 05:28 AM
Hi all

I am considering a gear indicator for the bike, I have noticed on ebay that most if not all state that they are suitable for 2004 bikes onwards, can anyone tell me what the difference is with older bikes and why they would not be suitable for an early K2 model please?

Thanks

Pete

I have no idea, but guys on here who have more technical `savvy` than I, will I am sure, explain why. Maybe there`s no reason and manufacturers quote 2004 as a starting place for their potential market, in their view?

Never seen the need for one myself. Had one on a GT750 (obviously a standard item), glanced at it once, nearly went into the back of the car I was following. The lovely lady slammed her anchors on without the slightest of warnings `cause she`d missed her turn. NEVER AGAIN !! Eyes on the road for me

Hmm yeh I have considered that, just weighing up the pro's & con's at the moment so appreciate your thoughts

Thanks

Hmm I'm with you Pete, I can't see why they all say 2004-2009 (including the Healtech ones), as I would assume if they fit one of the later models they would fit the 2002/3 models as well. The only thing I can possibly think of is that the 2002/3 models have a different plug from the later models - however I even doubt that argument as we all know that the main electrical changes came with the 2005 onwards models.

Hopefully someone with one fitted to a 2002/3 model will reply to clear the matter up

Will, my Healtech been on for years, the ATRE aspect smoothed out the lower gears, the gear indicator part, no more looking for gear 7. As far as being distracting, never a problem. No different to checking speedo, tacho or fuel gauge. I know nothing about the cheaper versions but mine works perfectly. Just a personal choice.

Thanks for the replies

I have checked on the Healtech web site tonight and the part No for the GIpro ATRE g2 is the same across all model variants of the 1400, being GPAT-SO1

Think I will give one a go

Thanks again

Pete

I've just bought the healtech gipro gear indicator and ATRE from a chap on ebay..brand new.never used
Its states in the description it's for all years of 14
I,ll screen shot a picture of the connection coz they are different to the £20 Chinese ones which have 3 wires in a 6 connector block

@AndyB thanks for this & the picture, I noticed that as you say the cheapo Chinese ones only have the one plug, not quite sure how that would work as you can't make the loop, probably have to splice tinto the loom I guess

Look's like you had a good buy there & saved yourself a good £40+

Cheers

Pete

The gear indicator that I got without the ATRE is a single plug and just plugs in without cutting or splicing anything

Just borrow some riding gloves from someone in Norfolk, you'll be able to count to six on your fingers then.

I can't say that i have ever looked for a 7th gear on the GSX but I have to confess to spending more time thatn I should cruising in 5th. Especially if I have previously been out on the GTR or Z which are so much more "revvy", it just seems that there are not enough cylinders changing direction
