Has anyone got recommendations for affordable (i.e. not snap-on) but good quality tool drawer units for the garage?
Budget up to around $1500 (ish)
The Stratco units look pretty good esp this one but I was trying to keep it to a max $1500 budget.
https://www.stratco.com.au/au/sheds--garages/shed--garage-storage/shed-shelving-units/complete-workshop-kit-red/
(Plus I'm not sure what a standard ceiling height is - if this would fit)
A less expensive option would be https://www.stratco.com.au/au/storage/garage-shed/roller-tool-chest-1800mm/ but I'd rather have something mostly drawers - the cupboard parts aren't as important as power tools etc can be stored elsewhere more cheaply. I think drawers are the most important thing.
Perhaps people can suggest other decent brands to look at?
For drawers I really need quality smooth slides / soft stop, and ideally lined drawers. The latter isn't essential.
Brands I know of - but have no idea if they are good or shit are:
Toolpro (Super Cheap Auto)
SCA (Supercheap Auto)
Ultimate Storage (Bunnings)
Ryobi (Bunnings)
Kincrome (Bunnings)
Supatool (Bunnings)
Stanley (Bunnings)
Sidchrome (Bunnings)
Giantz (ebay, Harvey Norman)
Mechrpo (Repco)
GV Tools (Repco)
Daytona (Sydney Tools)
TTI (Total Tools)

Probably out of budget
Gearwrench (Sydney Tools)
Definitely out of budget
in an IDEAL world I'd get this - I really like Milwaukee gear but WAY over budget.

Looking to purchase ~ August 2021.
(It's my incentive to lose weight between now and then)
As always Mike you get what you pay for, however I think TOOLPRO are quite sturdy units. :onya:
Have a look at Bunnings, we just brought one of these for work. Seems sturdy and well made.

Toolpro and Kincrome seem to be the ones recommended in carious places I've asked.
NutR33 - does the one you got / linked have decent bearing drawer slides?
Vlad, most of the Bunnings types are pretty good. Sidchrome, Kingchrome etc. Teng another. I have a Geelong brand, no problems. My old Beach has lasted forever. Workmate has $7000 Snap On, been replaced twice from rust issues. A great box otherwise. Another Mate has Kirkland from Costco. That is one ripper, huge , solid. Even gets delivered built, just put top part on bottom part. For 6G less than Snap On, seems to match it in every way for use. Thats for professional use. Of course no lifetime wrty or free Snap On removal to another shop, they just move it if you change jobs, just happened at my place, thats great service but buy price ridiculous.Checkout the Kirkland. Much better than Bunnings offerings, not that they are bad. Its just better. https://www.costco.com.au/KIRKLAND-SIGNATURE/Kirkland-Signature-Redline-Tool-Chest-10922cm/p/1600050

Bearings seem ok on the draws. I will check it out when it gets back to the workshop. It's currently in the middle of a Melbourne-Sydney-Darwin-Townsville-Melbourne in the back of a truck loaded with tools and equipment, I will see how well it holds up.
Professionally I have used Repco tools and roll cab for the last 20 years and been extremely happy with them.
Top quality stuff at Just Pro Tools. https://www.justprotools.com.au/pro-series-toolboxes/?pgnum=2
No issues with Kinchrome, but I've never bought new. Current unit is a kerb collection refurbished, plus I've got a sidchrome wall chest that I rescued.
If money allowed I would still buy a full Kinchrome chest with tools. Snap On just a bit too overpriced, nice tools though...
Thanks all.
It would be nice to be able to sneak one WITH tools but the minister for war and finance would notice...
You could always say it was a special, buy the drawers & get tools free because you were the lucky 101st customer buying these . . .
We had new bloke start at work. One 8 drawer box, everything else in 3 milk crates. Works for him.
Mate of mine had the full Snap-On gear, was stored at his work, thieves broke in and took only his set, left everyone else's gear. Pretty sure his works insurance didn't cover "personal items" stored at their premises.
Think youre correct Eric, not covered. I know at home, all my stuff covered with contents insurance. All my spades, garden tools etc. Not my trade tools. Have to have separate insurance for mechanic tools, bloody stupid robbery. Just because thats my trade. Ridiculous.
Been eyeing off the ultimate 72" from bunnings myself
@1AW022 did you see/try one in person? Your impression of quality esp drawer slides?
I'm looking forward to
@NutR33 's report on that unit.

If we can get into Townsville on Monday with everything that's going on here, I will see how it's traveling. Seemed ok still in Darwin the other week.
I will see if I can get a photo of the sliders for you.
Most Bunnings normally have one of the 3 different sizes setup to look at as well.
ta :)
Vlad, i was at a house this morn and he has a Bunnings bench, looks good, owner said no probs. Sure are huge or at least that one was. Photo is bench-space same size.
Thanks mate :onya:

How about this one for under $50 https://www.kerrbill.club/product/white/
Next thing they'll do is fill it with Snap On tools for another $9.99.
edit: admin - just for clarity of everyone this turns out to be a scam website, as Snapey clearly figured.

Nope, not $999 shipping, it says Free Worldwide shipping! Looks an amazing thing for the price, I'm tempted, but I really don't need any more tool chests, besides, I got no more room here, need a bigger shed!. The power outlet & plug won't be any good for us as it'll be 110v & wrong plugs, that could be changed, but it'd cost more to do that than the chest.
I think it's a great find Snapey.

Col, It's a very tempting offer but do you honestly think it's for real? That's probably a $1500/$2000 unit for $50 with free postage. It costs $50 to post an O ring from the US. You can bet your life there'll be thousands willing to take a $50 punt.
Here's another one. https://bit.ly/2UknLsB
A bit more realistic in cost and delivery than the last one but assembled in the same place so a bit suspicious as well.
edit: admin - just for clarity of everyone this also turns out to be a scam website. You are right to be suspicious Snapey. :)
Sounds too good to be true = too good to be true.
Well the bunnings one that was my front runner, turns out to be 1.8 and the space I have is 1.7 - typical. :frustrated:

Smells like a scam too good to be true.
Especially when the text says This product was recommended by 99% of reviewers; but the number of reviews on their website is zero.
Indeed it IS a SCAM.

Why not just try it Vlad? You pay the 50 bucks, if a tool chest as per the picture shows up at your door then all ok, if not, then we all know it's a scam, so win win for this forum.... :stir:
Theres a site that validates sellers, top score 100, that place gets 2.4. I like the price of 8 piece Ryobi1 kit, $38, if only it was real. $699 at Bunnings. At that rate, if they sold gsx14, around $300.
Yes, once I look a bit more closely at it, it's a rip off. Says 460lb how can you ship 460lb free? anywhere, let alone worldwide. Bit too early for me this morning & rushing through the new posts. my excuse anyway.

ta :)
Just looked at the sliders, small and medium draws have a single slide and the deep draws have dual slides.
All are ball bearings with a keep close detent on them.
Seems to be traveling well after 8,000km's or so in the back of a truck.

My toolbox is 183 x 49cm then you can add handles to the ends if required.
There is a 2 row one as well that would be about 140cm long.
Thanks, and thanks.
Yeah the space I have is 10cm too short for that workbench with handles REMOVED so a 'no go' sadly. I could really do with that size. Ah well.
140cm would be better than nothing I suppose...

Thanks mate good find I think I prefer the drawers on the Bunnings unit, but having said that I am exploring all options :)
With lockdown over it must be time to go shopping...
Tempted to buy the 72" one from Bunnings and just put it somewhere else in the garage rather than where I was going to put it... Not sure where though. :confused1:

I'd also like one of these and use the top for tool battery chargers etc

Not sure if it'd fit on an existing wooden cabinet I have, hopefully would. I'll have to do some measurirg.
These also look handy

Vlad, these blokes have bargains. Last week one of those long wooden tops sold $199. $50 freight. https://www.grays.com/products/tool-boxes-for-sale

Awesome site, cheers grog.
@VladTepes any of the ones you listed would be great, go with your first pick. I fitted a hardwood timber top to my steel framed bench, best thing ever. Now thinking of adding drawer or cupboards below.
