I don't know what is going on but prices still seem to be rising very quickly in the U.K. for our beloved bikes:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/384193616357?hash=item5973b959e5:g:ZxMAAOSw4YNgskjz
I wouldn't be surprised to find these bikes are not totally original and have been restored with polished forks and engine cases as a minimum. Many others I've seen for sale recently may look mint but have certainly not been totally original. Interesting to see if they sell at this price although they probably will as a couple seem to have sold for £9k recently.
I wouldn't say rising rapidly - if any sell at that price I'd be very very surprised, or even if anyone is mug enough to pay that sort of price. Just because they are advertised, doesn't mean they sell at or anywhere near that sort of money
Whilst prices are holding their own, that (frankly) is way way way over the top.
My k2 was just under £6000 when new sold it for £3000 in 2006
And the 2 k6 we have should have been £6200 each new we got them for £12000.
The tax is a great bike and deserves the prices to be holding up well .
But in my opinion none even if totally are worth more than the new price .
Low miles on a 20year bike isn't really a good thing.
General tarting up mods& bling are to each person's taste and not every owner wants what others have done.
Thing change slightly with expensive mods like expensive tuning work and the likes But they are not standard bikes and each has a value depending on if the new owner want that done to thier new bike.
If any of these bikes actually sell for £10000 the world will have finally gone totally mad .
Much more than their price in Oz.

Stupid prices on used bikes in the UK. If I was buying I would get a new one.
I think that they were all purchased from the same person who collected them over the years, nice bikes but waaaaaay over priced in my opinion, good luck to them though if someone is willing to pay that sort of money it won't do the rest of us any harm :8:
At the end of the day its all about supply and demand, and, after all, nothings worth a penny unless someone buys it!
Personally I think its great that the `14`s value appears to be increasing. Its a great looking and performing bike - there are few (any?) new bikes out there today which have a decent retro look for whoever wants one, so a nice `14 has to be worth a look. With a bit of haggling you get a fabulous machine for half the cost of a new alternative.
I know of no bikes in the `classic` category which haven`t increased in value from their original new price - even those which were undesirable when new are demanding big money now, take the awful performing Kawa Z750 Twin for example....£3k plus nowadays !
Saw this today. A few ks on it but wouldnt worry me. 2005, PC and dyno, full Cyclone. Looks good. $5000.
Dealt with these people before ,I reckon they will have paid 4500 to 5000 for each bike.
Just to add abit to my previous post,,my mate is a Suzuki dealer and he has just bought an absolutely fantastic k4 for 5 grand ,,7,000 miles probably the best 14 I've ever seen ,,unfortunately it's red and black though..lol.
That's really expensive for a red and black one😂🤣😂
Rattle can Black on the Red bits & she'll be good as gold!
I think GSX1400 prices will increase over time, but they are never going to be a green-frame Ducati investment ! :D

Yeah, why not, like Blueys scheme.
Vlad, dont worry about Green Frame price, My Mate in Tassie has a friend. He was the one that bought this in 2018. Only 30 made, 9 left they say. I know a bloke in town near me, He has a Lightning and Two Black Shadow. I wont post about his car/bike collection, no one would believe. Maybe just one pic, he has 7 sheds of amazing. https://www.bikesales.com.au/editorial/details/1-6-million-for-1951-vincent-black-lightning-110731/

Worth a fortune Col. Independent suspension pretty much a first. 4 cyl 500cc, 4 carbs, chain drive to trans. Worth a read. https://www.hotcars.com/a-detailed-look-back-at-the-honda-s500-hondas-first-passenger-car/
Saw this one at our local suzuki dealer, my mate sent me the photo, dont know the price, but if the mileage is correct, that has to be one of the nicest, high mileage K8's that i know of.
Might go and have a look this weekend....keep you posted.
Just run in.
Great lookin bike. 240k,whatever breaks can be fixed. The price would need to be adjusted for ks, otherwise, no problem.

So I posted that the 1400's had hit £10k then this appears today. What a bargain and its in the fastest blue and white colour🤗

That looks mint condition alright, someone will get a real nice 14 with that.
6 owners, less than 12k miles?? Mmmmm, approach with caution. That one`s history could make very interesting reading, or, it could be bargain of the year! :whistling:
14s attract some odd low mileage owners. I know mine's history goes -
1st owner, sold it at 120miles! must have opened the throttle & shit themselves I guess.
2nd owner did 1k a year for 7 years.
Then I got it & it's done a few* more miles since.
I'm the second owner of mine , the first owner sold it after 600 miles, it's now on 15&1/2 k, like your 2nd owner
@Hooli I do about a thousand miles a year on average. Back in the day when I was a courier it was a 1000 miles a week minimum. :onya:
Looks like it sold yesterday! Didn't hang around long as you would expect at that price. Does make you wonder why if it was in such fantastic condition you would let it go for at least £1500 to £2,000 less than it would appear to be worth🤔
Its a crazy world when a '14 like that can be bought for less money than some muppets are paying for a Fizzy! :rofl2:
Whats a fizzy?
Some crap old moped thing from the 70s. Yam FZ50 or something like that, basicly a bit of crap idiots are buying because they remember having one as their first bike.
Thanks Hooli, had no clue. Id like to buy my first registered bike. 1952 VH Red Hunter Ariel 500. Wouldnt be cheap now.
A fizzie was a Yamaha fs1e ,I had one at 16 ,gave us young uns our freedom,,pisses me off when I see them selling at 6 grand, mine was £225 brand new on the road in 1975...
Well $6K now, working backwards with deflation probably equates to around $100 :stir: :stir: :stir:

Bang on Daytona - freedom machines for us sixteeners, mine was the FS1-E predecessor, the gold `SS`. Identical other than the side panel emblem! I bought it for £120, mint and under a year old. Luvved it. Rode it everywhere, sometimes did 100mile rides in all weathers visiting grandparents, no mobile phones then, no riding gear, just jeans/Levi jacket/sweatshirt & trainers. It never let me down thankfully. Had the bike around a year before passing my test, enjoyed every moment - even saw 42mph on the clock once!!
I saw a bloke riding one a while back - it looked stupidly tiny. I wondered whether he felt as big a tw4t as he looked!
Getting back on subject - no, they just cannot be worth the big money they are demanding, and no matter how desperate I am (or not!) to relive my youth, i`ll be spending my spare few grand on a proper bike, not a moped......
.......talking of which, I saw a couple of mint standard Triples this afternoon on the A251 between Ashford & Faversham - sounded awesome. A Red GT750M & Red H1E. Those responsible, please step forward :worshippy::onya:
I'm sure I have a couple of those wee two stroke things lying somewhere in the corner of my shed.
I had a Casal Phantom 5 at 16 that was on slightly less excruciatingly slow than a FS1E and loved it for the freedom a moped gave me and my FS1E owning mates. Would I want to ride one now?
Of course I would but only once up and down our street. After that I would be painfully reminded of why I couldn't wait to be able to move on to a bigger (proper) bike at 17 because all those mopeds were tiny and absolutely mind numbing, boringly slow.
Honestly paying £6k and upwards for a moped is absolutely bonkers. I get the fun of fixing up an old one that needs TLC but riding it on the road 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I'm with you Phil. A quick blat up and down the street, hand it back to owner with many thanks. Thinking to my self, gee I'm glad I don't own one anymore and jump on my GSX1400 and ride off happily :boogie: :boogie:
On the other hand...
I know a bunch of old farts, they must be about 60, who have all got the 125s they had as kids again & do often go on group rideouts for miles racing each other at 42.3mph & have a right laugh.

Thanks Barmy, hows the injuries? Me and mates went the old Pommy bike route. AJS, Matchless, Ariel, Triumph. Had some great times fixing and riding. Taught me a lot. Mostly mid 50s models. They had some basic ideas but we fixed them, got them working. Have you ever seen a novice try to kick start Ariel 500 with high compression piston without retarding spark. Broken ankle or 5ft in the air. Funny. We tried to show him, wouldnt listen.

Not too bad thanks
@grog , the injury to my leg is taking longer to heal than I thought, guess taking a lump of flesh out on the bone plus age and expecting a quick "back to normal" wasn't realistic LOL. Bike has been assessed for damage and inspected by the insurance, just awaiting the nod from them now to start repairs.
Must admit the accident has unsettled me more than I thought, forever looking in my mirrors now especially when another vehicle gets close behind (even when driving the car). I'll see how it goes when I get the GS back, but I keep getting nightmare recurrences of the accident reminding me how lucky I was to get off with such slight injuries, possibility that I may yet hang up my helmet for the last time - but I'll see once I get things back on the road. But one thing for sure is that its knocked my confidence even though I know I did nothing wrong.
I think that's the major issue Dave, you did nothing wrong & ya still got belted - by someone you knew. Makes it hard to 'trust' again for sure. Maybe some time on your own first, then be the 'tail end charlie' for a while. Good luck on both the healing sites - leg n head. :onya:
Can you borrow a bike off anyone to get out on Barmy? I know after my spill in march anytime when I could have run into things (approaching junctions etc) made me uncomfy for a while, but I'm sure getting out on a bike again soon afterwards helped as I didn't dwell on it for too long before realising it won't happen every time.
Talking of injuries, I've still got a bruise on my knee from march. So I must be getting old too.

Yes, I have a loan bike at the moment which I have got out on, in fact would like to get out more on if the weather improves. Also spoken to a mate who had a spill last year and he said it takes a while to get your confidence back. Getting there, just wary of it happening again as this is the second time I've been rear ended on a motorcycle and I have to say its not a nice experience!
Aye I know it takes a while, it's probably worse when it wasn't your fault too.

I'm not sure what 125's they got, but in my day they where good for 70 to 75 mph.
Two smoke rubbish, I'm not sure either.
It would be the `old fart` on the Honda 125 who maxed-out at 42.3mph......not the smart guys on the `strokers :rofl2:.
In the mid `70`s making a bike choice was easy. If you weren`t sure of yourself and didn`t mind how long it took you to get to the pub, you bought a four stroke. If you were thirsty and wanted to arrive at the bar early and wearing a smile, you went on a two stroke. It was that simple - there really was a massive difference (relatively speaking) between the two types of motor.
Then came the Z1 which changed everything - you would arrive at the pub before opening time....
@gsxbarmy Dave I've never been rear ended (even by a friend) so I'm not sure how I'd feel about that :whatever:
I've been knocked off by carless drivers twice. My experience was not pleasant and there was a considerable time to heal. So when I came back to ride it was a mixture of bike fitness and confidence.
I've always said to people who ask "Why do you ride motorcycles", if I explain it to you, you wouldn't understand anyway
Glad you're recovering and hope you're out and about without trepidation asap :onya: :hat:

My bike is a Blue and White K2 in absolutely immaculate and, if I say so myself, stunning condition with 10k miles on it. It has no polished parts and everything is standard or easily put back to standard. As stated the bike is almost completely unblemished except for a couple of almost unnoticeable marks on the engine cases. The additional extras are - Crash bars, R&G bar ends, front fork and rear axle protectors, custom seat, oil temperature gauge, rear hugger and Oxford heated grips. I have the original seat (which is like new), it still has the unblemished and like new original silencers and a spare set of original silencers in almost new condition. It only has partial service history but as stated it's in absolutely stunning condition.
So I see a classic 1968 BSA 650 Spitfire Scrambler for sale. I've fallen for Old Brit bikes now I have a newly acquired 1976 MK3 Norton Commando. However, I really still have a huge amount of love for my 14 but thought I would venture a price differential as an option out of curiosity. I want £7k against a £10k BSA 1968 Spitfire with some issues that is probably worth £8k at the very most The dealer tells me I'm basically deluded as my bike is a two a penny Suzuki and we are miles apart on price. The BSA has been on sale since May this year🙄 I tell him no problem I'll sell the 14 privately or keep it 🤗 I then ask what's your best price for cash. Maybe he's done you a favour ,not the greatest brit twin motor those unit BSA's, SRM conversion on the crank req'd mainly!
Phill, if you want a BSA 650 twin, get a Bonnie instead. Trust me, they are heartbreakers, terrible motor. Have had experience.
Phil, with respect, we all value our own bikes far higher than they`re actually worth. Seems to me that the dealer is asking far too much for the BSA, (probably why its been on the market for so long), and the only way you`ll get any sale on your bike at the price you want is to offer it privately, and even then, expect to be agreeing to a figure far below your own valuation. A dealer never sees a bike through your own eyes, he just sees a profit margin. And he relies on a purchasers `drool` factor - as you will if you try to sell privately.
Bottom line is, if you paid much over £5k for your `14, you`re likely to make a loss when selling it now. Over the years i`ve paid a lot of attention to the way bike prices rise, and time and again, any future `classic` bike value tends to really rise 30-35yrs after the last of the model run was produced. Of course, there are rare machines to which this doesn`t apply but i`m talking in general terms.
If I were you i`d seriously consider keeping the `14 and checking out more realistically priced British options to buy as an addition rather than replacement.
You know I luv classic bikes, but, i`ve learnt over the years to always have a more modern `superbike` in the stable too, for obvious reasons :onya:

Looks like the guy did me a favour as not only on here but other forums have all told me to avoid the bike as they aren't the best, pretty much as Grog stated. Hey Ho this forum once again comes up trumps👏
Phil, nothing to do with me but you already have two totally different but awesome bikes. Why not another different. Maybe a 2 stroker, even an old single cylinder Pommy bike or even Enfield Bullet. Fun to ride those singles but an hour is the limit in one go. Just a thought. My Old Man had 350 BSA, i liked to have a putt on it once in a while.
Out of interest chaps,,I called in at the shop where the "6 minters are " about 2 weeks ago,,,they only had 1 of the 14s left ...they all achieved the asking price...surprising I know ..
The prices people are paying for stuff lately is insane, must be all the savings they've got from two years of not having a holiday.
Hope it keeps up as I'm probably going to sell mine in the spring.

I had a salesman tell me how they didn't like trading bikes with over 50k/km because of the market etc and the low value of bikes past that point. I thanked him for pointing out how little resale value the Motorcycle he was going to sell me had when I was done with it as pretty much all my bikes hit 100k/km, perhaps I should buy a European Bike. He wasn't quite sure how to answer that.

mjgt, and replace with what? Youll never replace a good 14, weve been blessed with a one off perfect bike.
Not going to replace it with anything, I've still got four other bikes to play with.
