Title: Fuel Injection System Indicator - F1
Post by: teppum on Friday, 09 April 2021, 02:12 AM
Hello,  I have a K2 and the red injector light on the dash is on and in the odometor display reads F1.  Only happened the last 10 miles or so and it takes 5 mins or so of use before the warning is displayed.   Watched stuff on you tube and read some manuals on line, and finally found this site.   :)  Done alot of my own work on bikes with carbs, but no idea what i should be doing with injectors.
Should i take it to a dealer or is it something i can take care of myself?   Just been serviced (at a dealer with the MOT) has 23 000 miles on the clock.  Bike is my daily, and has been trouble free the 1 year i have owned it.  From the MOTs and the milelages it was seldom used for the previous 5 years before i bought the bike.
Many thanks in advance to anyone who has had a similar problem, or who knows the best way to proceed
Ian

Ayup, it could be many many many things without getting the fault codes you won't know. This is a guide to doing so..

I'll take a guess at C28, it's about the most common one that happens after riding for a bit.

To all things 1402
Follow what @Hooli has said and you'll not go far wrong .
Just remember a fault code isn't necessarily the part the code related to it could be anything in the circuit giving the fault.
You can look at and also download for free a full Suzuki workshop manual here just look in the downloads section.
The other most common things that lead to dash light faults coming up are .
Clutch and side stand switches .
Kill switch
Bit most of all bad connections in the loom
Check all the plugs you can find the big ones under the right side panel and all the ones in the headlight bowl.
Good luck.
Let us know how you get on as I'm sure more help is here if you need .
It's not more complicated than carbs it's just different and actually simpler .
Top tip also head over to the bar and introduce yourself .
You never know there might be someone local to you who can help you .

Thanks for the advice, so many good resources.  So I was all set to run the diagnostics as suggested by holli and seth.  In the meantime i bought some TECHRON PEA Concentrate Plus Petrol Fuel Injector System Cleaner, thinking if it was dirty injectors its a cheap solution, and it couldnt hurt.  So after a few trips to and from work, the FI warning light took longer to come one, and now i can not get it to come on at all.  Which is oddly annoying as i am off for the week and planned to fix whatever the code said was wrong.  The bike is still running no different than it has since i first got it with or without the warning light on.  Thanks again for the help, if things change i will update to help out anyone with a similar problem

Gidday mate, as Seth says, head into the Intro section, here: https://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?board=20.0.

With it being sat for lengthy periods, I'd be plumping for dirty / blocked teabag filter and or HP fitter.  The injector cleaner would help in this instance too, it may come completely right, or may return.  If you've got the week off, take the tank off & pull the pump out & check it for crud build up.  Link here on that:  https://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=430.0

Good luck & do get back with whatever you find, we're all here together & help each other.   :onya:

My advice, cleaner has helped so must be clogged up. Of course tea bag, high pressure needs replace or by pass. Injector service required. Spoke with member recently. had major probs, injectors were main cause. Got them cleaned, prob solved. So many 14 probs caused by stupid high pressure filter design and clogged injectors, which also have filters. Seths filter in feed line a good mod. IMO, all those steps need to be done, then just cleaner every so often. Gotta have good fuel delivery.
