Hi, I have a noob question, sorry - I've only had caburetted bikes before. If i swap the end cans on a GSX1400, will i need a power commander? (Power commanders, all new to me too!)
I'm hoping to go take a look at a GSX next week all being well. its a K2, with twin stubby Black Widow end cans. I just wanted to know if i should be looking for a PC under the seat too, or if it would be fine without one, etc.
Cheers guys!
It'll be fine, loads run like that. K2-K4 tend to run rich from the factory so it might even run a bit better on fuel.
It's normally when you change downpipes or fit something stupid with no backpressure (& a shit noise) like campbells that a PC3 is needed.
Cheers Hooli, thought it was worth the check!
Aftermarket pipes look and sound better than the stock bazookas. They also help the engine breathe better. Don't need a PC or similar separate fuel mapping device until you start playing with the camshafts.
Black widow pipes sound pretty good, Akrapovic way better (but I'm biased)
@Eric GSX1400K3 I wouldn't run a K5 onwards 14 with an Akra & no PC3, I've seen a totally standard K7 running so lean the dyno place aborted the power run. It was nearly new so no running faults. K2-K4 tend to run rich as standard so are much safer to tweak without a PC3.
Fully agree hooli, I saw the OP said it was a k2.
Mines a k2 as well, I have docs from when I bought it that its had an eco flash tune done, no idea what though, have to get a dyno run done one of these days.

They definitely sound better Eric but in my honest opinion nothing looks better than the stock exhausts on the early 4 into 2 models. I miss the sound of aftermarket cans on my K2 especially from a safety point of view. I bought a spare set of stock cans off eBay last year for under £100 delivered with the idea of removing the baffles. They cleaned up really well and look mint now but haven't got around to removing the baffles yet.
I'm not convinced the standard cans look great, but a lot of aftermarket cans do look shit. Especially the silly colour or flame effect ones. Then add in that no-one seems able to fit them so they hang level...

Thats a pet hate of mine too, uneven twin exhausts..... just doesn't look right!
I agree. I follow lots that arent even. Looks stupid. Id prefer dual outlets on mine but just a big exercise im not gonna do. One day soon ill get a little tucked in muffler, similar to MT Yams. Exhaust shop already been spoken to, reckons can can fit in where link pipe is. A naked rear end.
That'd look smart. there is a youtube vid.... exhaust compilations... and someone on that has done it, i think it looks good. sounded good, too.

Yeah I love that look. Maybe cheaper per unit to do two at once....
I reckon uneven exhausts look great!
Maybe not on a 14 with duals...
:hat:
Agree Black. Those will never go rusty. KH500??
These looked good, a bit uneven.
