So I've been looking at the GSX1400's for sale over the weekend, and most of them are over 5k. I'm guessing these are becoming classics now?
Also, may be a daft question, but is there any model year that is known to have any issues, or are they all about the same, ie. equally reliable?

You can distill that from the "new to you" topic.
Nothing big... other the high pressure fuel filter issue.. which is not 14 specific
Cheers Blubber. I've had a read through that, and i read the model history post too, which was an interesting read. Pleased to see that nothing particular stands out as a problem area as such... just keeping on top of maintenance really. That'll make buying a bit easier!
Not much to chose from.
K2-K4, original rear shocks may leak.
K5 onwards there was a recall for immobiliser issues, which they still do free as far as I know.
Just pick the paint you like best & remember Blue & White is the fastest.
I was looking at bike prices the other day, everything is bloody expensive currently. A lot of used bikes appear to have doubled in price over the winter.
Just had a look on auto-trader, the cheapest one I could find was £4000 a silver one 54k on the clock.
I have a spare, pop round & take it for a spin & see what ya think. :onya: :whistling:
A k7fe like mine with low miles like mine is going for £6000 . Looks like I'll have to get the polish out :hat: :onya:

There is another one for sale for you to add to your collection on Trade me
https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/tourers/listing/3013588050?bof=RxoOayAX
looks to be clean and tidy even has the tires painted hopefully not with silicone
Damn fine looking bike Grumpy and probably my favorite colour  :smitten:
It is a very nice example BUT it would be a hard choice between that and a low milage 2nd Gen Hayabusa which can be had for the same money in just as good a condition OR a Second bike maybe a DRZ suzuki to blow away the cobwebs on a sunday morning down a nice tight road like Waihi to Whangamata
That is if I actually had the money to spare

Being advertised at that perhaps but what are they actually selling for - if you look at eBay sold listings then that paints a different picture of about £4.5k obtained for a good example
Moonie paid £5,500 for a 5k miles 08 reg FE the other week.
Just wondering Hooli, what 3or 4 bikes would you consider besides 14. Not exotics, super expensive crap.

I keep thinking an older FJR would make sense for what I do on bikes, it's hardly my style but would be a lot more sensible. The Pan I had was a good bike and the FJR is meant to be a bit more fun. I don't do lent over riding so things like Sprint STs are probably out, even if they didn't have half the swingarm missing - why pay for an incomplete bike?
Other than that, maybe a Tiger. But when I sat on a white 1050 once & looked down the plastics reminded me exactly of leaning over a bog to throw up during the morning after..
Triumph Exploder maybe?
The new HD Pan America has surprised me with how cheap* (starts about £17k here) for a HD they are, if only they hadn't styled the front on a Cylon.
Other than that, old stuff. Can you tell I don't want to spend lots of money on Jap crap?
Jap crap i like. Nothing in their new bikes interests me. Rocket 3 i love but spent 3 weeks on one, just too heavy for parking, moving around. 14 will be my keeper but would like something different also. Too old for sport bikes, too short for Adventure bikes. Not a Harley or Indian, KTM person. Love Bonnies but just something missing. So my stupid thoughts, Maybe one of those Royal Enfield 650 twins. Knowing it will have problems, Knowing i can buy kits to make up to 900cc. Knowing 14 always in shed when it stuffs up. Sort of like adopting a bad child into a good family. My 14 is very sorted, so a challenge would be good. Not totally sure but sort of appeals to me. Anyone ridden one?
I'm selling my Harley Lowrider at the moment, so once thats sold i'll be getting a GSX. i've seen a couple at around £4k that i like, but yeah... most are advertised as £5k+ now.

Sounds like the only bike that suits would be another 1402. What about a neglected one to restore? I've thought about that, keep one as daily rider/set up with bling and adding custom bits, the other totally standard. I would be looking for a K6 or K8 for std and keep my K2 to customise....just my thoughts.
Apart from the silly prices I can't afford the main thing that puts me off new bikes is all the tech. I don't want a 50" full colour screen nailed to the dash with 507 rider modes etc etc, I want a few dials for speed, revs & fuel along with a couple of warning lights. All the rest is bollocks & just crap to look at.
Quite a first world problem we have here really, what about how are we going to feed the starving ?? No, No, fair enough, back to the real issue. Have wandered around the bike showrooms. l see nothing that l can say "I want one" That FE on Trade Me is about the nicest thing I've seen in a while.

:confused1: but a GSX1400 and a 'busa are ENTIRELY different bikes for entirely different use cases.
A
DRZ DR650 would be a fun 2nd bike.

Hmm. So I'm guessing my BMW 1250GS with TFT screen, electronic suspension, anti-lock brakes, cruise control, 7 rider modes etc isn't to your liking then Andy LOL.
In many ways I do agree with you. Some of the new technology I find really useful, in particular the electronic suspension. But I do agree on much of the other aspects, TFT screens have come in thru rider demand for more and more tech, integrated sat Nav and a host of other reasons. It's all a bit OTT.

If I was to buy a Hayabusa the 1400 would be the 2nd bike as it would become a project of full restoration with as original everything but much cleaner and better finishing without any Cheap bling But with a set of cams a bit of head work along with a full Yoshi system and fueling to match
The Busa would be for getting to places on tour when the weather is questionable and having one just because I can
And I like a challenge and making a Hayabusa go around corners could be a worthy challenge
There should be a few for sale soon when the new model arrives for not a lot of money
As the Gen 2 only sold here on runout for $19990 and less if you haggled

Not my ideal bike no Dave
I couldn't do a BMW anyway, almost everyone else in my IAM group has one & you know I like to be different.
I appear to have arranged a test ride on a 2014 Triumph Sprint GT on friday, that one is too expensive but the place with a cheaper one doesn't do test rides. Now I just need to find a way to get a go on a FJR.
I really shouldn't buy a bike as I can't afford it & I'm getting the Bonnie back on the road this year. But I'm getting a bit fed up of my 14 being randomly thirsty while appearing to run utterly perfectly. I'll keep the 14 obviously & I'd even take the topbox etc off if I had a proper tourer parked alongside it.
My mate owns a R1250 BMW. Has for 2 years. Its been on the road for 6 months. 18 months waiting for parts to make it run properly. Wont refund his many dollars purchase. Hes just glad his 20 year old Kawa 1200 keeps him riding.
How about one of these.......Taxed; MOT`d and ready to go :onya: apart from the misfire on No. 17 cylinder
Perfect for winter riding in the UK. The engine will melt the snow for metres around the bike....
Why ??
Well, if you've got a stack of KH250 engines lying around ( plus a 75cc engine to tuck under the seat to act as a starter motor), then why not! :whistling:
That is just staggering, can't stop looking at it. Does it actually run? You wouldn't want to actually ride it, probably burn your forearms on a cyl head.
Col, think i saw it or similar running on a video.

It runs & sounds like a misfiring chainsaw.

All seems such a waste of time, money to me. Millyards inventions much better. This Velocette is pure class. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27-92lW7irI
That's beautiful & sounds wonderful.

Yes it does run KiwiCol. At the time I took the photo (at a KTC Rally), it was taxed for the road - though Simon obviously didn`t ride it on the highway. However, we all witnessed him `ride` it a few yards down the car park in a straight line(ish!) It started just fine and sounded surprisingly smooth, and was quiet compared with some of the other bikes present.
