Title: Murry walker R.I.P.
Post by: seth on Sunday, 14 March 2021, 09:42 AM
Sad news today about the voice of motorsport for do many over such a long career.
Murry walker passed away today aged 97 .
He loved his bikes ,his dad was a TT winner and he competed on a motorcycle back in the day .
But as he said he wasn't good enough to win .
Those that can do it .
Those that can't talk about it .
And talk he did for all those years .
A true legend in every sense of the word .
R.I P.  Murry walker .

RIP Sir Murray Walker

I have just read his bio on Wiki an interesting read, I wasn't aware of his achievements in early life and careers

Ah bugger, R.I.P Murray. :salute:

Quote from: Murray Walker"It's a sad ending, albeit a happy one

His commentary was quite often better than the race itself.

"And Edson Arantes di Nascimento, commonly known to us as Pele, hands the award to Damon Hill, commonly known to us as Damon Hill."

"It's raining and the track is wet"

"The lead car is unique, except for the one behind it which is identical."

"I don't make mistakes. I make prophecies which immediately turn out to be wrong."

"There's nothing wrong with the car except that it's on fire."

"And now, excuse me while I interrupt myself."

"And that just shows you how important the car is in Formula One Racing."

"Either the car is stationary, or it's on the move."

"That's history. I say history because it happened in the past."

"With half the race gone there is half the race to go"

"I imagine the conditions in those cars are totally unimaginable"

"Either that car is stationary or it's on the move"

"Do my eyes deceive me or is Senna's car sounding a bit rough?"

"As you can see, visually, with your eyes..."

"And there's no damage to the car - except to the car itself."

"He can't decide whether to leave his visor half open or half closed. "

"I've no idea what Eddie Irvine's orders are, but he's following them superlatively well."

"In twelfth and thirteenth, the two Jaguars of Eddie Irvine."

"It looks as though this year there will be seventeen Grands Prix for the World Championship, compared with the traditional seventeen."

"Now he must not go the wrong way round the circuit, and unless he can spin himself stationary through 360 degrees I fail to see how he can avoid doing so."

"This will be Williams' first win since the last time a Williams won."

"Well, now we have exactly the same situation as at the beginning of the race, only exactly opposite."

"You can cut the tension with a cricket stump."

"You might not think that's cricket, and it's not, it's motor racing."

"And the first five places are filled with five different cars"

"And this is the third-placed car about to lap the second-placed car"

"The battle is well and truly on if it wasn't on before, and it certainly was"

"Two laps to go, then the action will begin. Unless this is the action, which it is"

Murray: "There's a firey glow coming from the back of the Ferrari!"
James Hunt: "No Murray, that's his rear safety light"

"It's a sad ending, albeit a happy one, here at Montreal for today's Grand Prix"

"Andrea de Cesaris, the man who has won more grand prix than anyone else without actually winning one"

"Unless I'm very much mistaken... I am very much mistaken!"

"The young Ralf Schumacher has been upstaged by teenager Jenson Button, who is 20"

"It would have been Senna's third win in a row if he'd won the two before"

"I'm ready to stop my start watch"

"This is an interesting circuit because it has inclines, and not just up, but down as well."

and I, as was Murray, was a huge Mansell fan.

"Mansell is slowing it down, taking it easy. Oh no he isn't! It's a lap record."

"Prost can see Mansell in his earphones."

Truly the greatest !  :notworthy: :salute:

He certainly was passionate about his sport.
A true old fashioned gentleman. I think his gaffes added to his charm.
