2.30am just been woken up by a decent shake. Magnitude 7.2 but lucky for us it was 96kms deep. The big Christchurch quake 10 years ago was only 7kms deep. Really weird sensation laying in bed with things rattling wondering if its going to get worse.
Finished now, back to sleep :hat:
Wow, lucky it was deep. Kaikoura had another one yesterday, a 4 & shallow. I'm going up this afternoon for the weekend, I'll see if anything has fallen over, doubt it though. There's been a bit of activity on the big fault lately, we can do without another major.
Now there has been 2 more out by the kermadec islands both between 7 and 8 on the scale and quite shallow with evac orders for some of the east coast of the north island due to possible Tsunami and beach and marine warnings
Hope everyone is safe and well
Lot of earthquakes around NZ this morning. Just had a 7.8 at the Kermadec Islands thats the second one there this morning
A Tsunami warning has been issued for some areas of our East Coast.
.....areas are being asked to evacuate.
"Evacuation overrides covid restrictions"
Apparently all on the same fault line.
(Engages millennial brain).... "might go to the beach and watch the tsunami"
Could take an hour and a half to get here.
Exciting times for you all then.
Should be good for surfing right?
Yes and could be good for fishing off the back door step :onya:
Just leave the back door open, fish will swim right in :stir:
Hope all is well
True that Eric :onya:
Sounds like the Tsunami alert could be a fizzer. Let hope so. All very good to be blasè but not funny if things did turn to shite.
Just saw the first tidal surge hit near Whangarei? They were predicting 3m tides, and the first not being the largest. Even is this ones a fizzer, good to be prepared.
Hold on tight fellas they're not called the shaky isles for no reason :stir: :stir: :stir:
That's not good, time to batten down the hatches. Let's hope it's just a few grumbles and nothing else
Hope you Kiwis ok. Would scare the crap out of me. Have never felt earthquake. All the best wishes.

No, he hasn't but his wife has. :whistling:
Bit of a strange day today. To get 3 big earthquakes in such quick succession. We were lucky they were deep, the one that woke us was 96kms. The Christchurch quake was of a lesser magnitude but only 5kms deep.
We had visions of a Tsunami. Warnings being sent to phones and many people evacuating low lying coastal areas. We were fortunate it came to nothing.
When mother nature wants to have its way we are just along for the ride.
If you're going for one over the weekend, enjoy.
Be safe.
Stay safe kiwifruit
Lovely sunny day today, no shakes, no Tsunami warnings and back to covid level 1 at 6am tomorrow..
Such a weird day yesterday. Thanks for your good wishes gents.
