Decided against Michelin's this time and want to try something different
I'm considering these options:
Pirelli - Angel GT ?
Metzeler - Roadtec ?
Avon
I prefer a 55 profile rear.
My use case is a mix of commuting and weekend rides with, unfortunately much more of the former.
I do ride in the rain, so wet grip is important to me.
A feeling of stability is also more reassuring and preferable to skatiness.
Long tyre life would be nice but not at the expense of stability/wet grip . As long as the tyre life isn't known to be particularly
short. "average" is fine.
I've read
@BlueDragon post here (https://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=5488.msg73322#msg73322) where he states a preference for the Metzeler Roadtec 01.
I've read various threads where
@grog states he's had great experience with Angels, while
@seth also had good things to say after his Belgium trip.
Going back through the forum it seems I last changed the front tyre in August 2018, and the rear in June 2019.
So let's discuss the above options - not just which brand/model but also which particular spec.
:onya:
Avon Storm 3D XM. Better than angels and roadtecs in all conditions except subzero rain where roadtecs just win. The Avons last nearly twice as long though.
Between roadtec and angels I'd go angels as they lasted longer for me and ride better.
@VladTepes Never used Avons.
Don't like Michelins very much. Just felt like a harsh tyre on all my bikes that I have tried them on over the years.
I've replied back to the other thread with an update for you.. again, just my personal opinion and what I feel with the bikes that I currently own.
Ta mate.
I just spoke to my tyre guy and he said he rates the Avons highly, but can't get them at the moment as supply form the UK is impossible amongst current covid conditions. No idea when he'll be able to get some in, but not soon. (Typical - when I need some nobody has them!)
He reckons the Pirelli Angel GT-II (https://www.pirelli.com/tyres/en-ww/motorcycle/all-tyres/sheet/angel-gt-ii) (A) as customers he's fitted them for recently are very happy with them.
The downside? Price. They aren't cheap. Front is $275 rear is ~ $325 I think he said.
The way its looking with these new tyres plus EK chain and sprockets ($320 local price) and labour/fitting I'm gonna be up for a few $ short of $1K
Ouch! How do I break that to the cheese and kisses?
and while I'm not overly keen on another Michie set, he also rates the Michelin Road 5 GT (though they don't appear to offer a 55 profile rear tyre option for our bikes)
maybe buy here and get them fitted locally..

Yes they do Mike, Kiwifruit has a 55 profile on at the moment, and he rates it.

OK I've read this and other tyre threads on here and am running Angel's at the moment. They came on the bike and are about 5 years old.
I'm looking at trying Bridgestones over everything else and yes once again I have read the threads.
I know a 14 owner at Coolum who has BT016 Pro's fitted and he loves them.
I've seen them and he couldn't get another mm wear on the outer edge and he's tried.
I've looked at the reviews on the Hypersport S22 which are more modern construction and rated better than BT016 and S21.
Has anyone tried them?
I have Roadtec 01's on my BMW GS, and have to say I'm really quite happy with them. To date on previous bikes I've always been a Michelin supporter. When I got my GS last year, a new set of the Roadtec's had been fitted. Admittedly due to lockdowns I've only covered just over 1k miles but initial impressions are very good, I've as much confidence in these as the Michelin's - so I'd say they are a good option. I'd def have them again in my BMW.
Worth noting that the Roadtec 02 is imminent to be released.
Can Star Blue, Aussie review and compare. 2020 survey of most satisfied bike tyre buyers. 1 Dunlop. 2 Bridgys. 3 Michelin. Would never have guessed that result.
What are Dunplop even doing as a touring tyre these days?
Adding another into the mix Bridgestone T31 on mine

Very happy, confidence inspiring and very stable and predictable.
Hooli, was interesting question about Dunlop. I had a quick look. Arrowmax GT601. Know nothing about them. Sure are cheap price. Set of Angels $465, Set of Dunlop $300.

I couldn't recall the last time I'd even looked at Dunlop tyres, so ta.
I'll stick to Avons though, apart from the Storm 2 Ultra a few years ago my 14 has always liked them.
Having recently bought a K2 1400 it came with a new set of boots. Michelin road pilot 4 GT's.
So far I have only done about 300 miles or so on them but they seem like great tyres. Looking forward to testing them out some more as the weather improves.
Last year I was riding a Gsxr1100 with pirelli Angels, which were great for fast road riding and even on the track were enough for me.
I have always been a big fan of Avon motorcycle tyres and used them on many bikes over the years. I've also gotten on well with Metzler's.
I have never really liked Bridgestone tyres and have removed them from some bikes I've bought in favour of Avon's, yet some people swear by them ?
Funny how we all have different experiences with similar products. I will give an update on the Michelin's in a few more hundred miles.
Yeah Mate, the round black things sure bring out the constructive criticism. In all my years only had a couple of bad ones. Dunlop Elite on GS1000, they were bad.
Hey all,
This information will only be useful to sports riders, but I can absolutely recommend Bridgestone BT016 Pro's.
I only ride solo & run 36/40psi - 42psi wears a little better but 40psi grips better. If I want tyres to wear, i'll drive my car thanks. There's not much between you and the scenery, so you want to make sure you don't end up a part of it!
Photos attached after 5,000kms (in case they help?).
Another Bridgestone fan here, I run T031's at 36/40 with no issues at all. Great tyres IMHO.
Bridgestone T32's transformed the bike :)
My tyre advice, if you like what you have, just use them.
I was using aftermarket S22's on my Kwak. I was pretty surprised by them. Fair play they were voted Sportsbike Tyre of the year, and then joint winner in consecutive years. What was an eye opener was you don't need to be star rider to benefit, they let even unskilled numb nuts like me get away with so much.
They won't suit folk who put in big miles or all weather but for a Sunday toy fun bike they really are good.
My Suzuki came with S22's but it's been proven many times OEM factory fitted tyres are rarely the same as what looks like similar aftermarket ones, the compounds, manufacturing and even the amount of ply can be different despite them looking similar.
Tyres are a quite personal thing but S22's are my choice at the moment.

Are you scrapping your footpegs
@Fast1400 using tyre from edge to edge ? :boogie2:
Are Bridgestone the most common choice for the GSX ?
I've been running Dunlop Roadsmart 2 for a few years but fancy a change.
What Bridgestones would everyone recommend ?
@GSXKING footpegs no, but exhaust bolts and covers yes!
No longer, thanks to my new shocks😀

I've seen a few 14's that have ground the bolts on the bottom right hand engine mount. It's not that rare. Longer shocks or Jack up spacers stop it though.
Maybe im old n slow, all i wear out is sides of my boots, annoying, just means replacing good boots. Maybe i need to tuck them in a bit closer to inside.
I got a rear puncture on Wednesday in my angel....and could only get a Bridgestone 23 duel compound sports/tourer to replace it.....still have an angel on the front..only ridden in the dry but no complaints on grip and lean so far...
I've got 023 on my Hornet as it came with them and so did my Sprint.
Can't fault them but they turn a bit heavier and wear a bit faster than my preferred Avon Storm.

I just purchased a new set of Angel 2 but only put the front on as the rear 023 has plenty of tread, seems to but working OK.

The triple compound BATTLAX HYPERSPORT S22.
Ridiculously good.
My mate has them on his 1000SX, but they can't be any better than my GT2 & 023 because he still can't get near me on the twisties.
I wouldn't want to get too close to you either
So Irish, youd still beat him with Cheng Shins on?
To be sure
