Title: Reset

At work we do a thing called CAN BUS reset on many cars. It just forces ECU to go back to start position, go thru its re learn levels. Solves many problems. Same as hard reset on phone, tablet etc. So, my bike was not as smooth as normal, just not itself. I did reset and now much better, back to normal. All it is, just remove negative batt lead, connect to positive lead  for around a minute.Reconnect negative to battery,  Turn key on, give it another minute, then start. Only thing needed will be reset clock. Might lose trip meter ks.

BT had a small telephone system called a mini master, mostly used in shops and regularly needed a reset - one was installed in a lingerie shop in Cardiff City centre - the fitter had placed the main unit in the changing rooms - what a top guy !!! went there about twice a month to switch it off and back on, took around an hour (normally 2 minute job ) needless to say I got its of offers from colleagues to help but being the foreman I insisted it was a job for one - shame no camera phones in those days:rofl2:

Yep, pretty common on most ECU controlled engines. The hard reset discharges all capacitors etc in the ECU and  should clear any DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes). Done it a few times on my car, especially when resetting air suspension settings etc.   Might try it on the 1400 on the weekend, good tip.

But 14s don't have learning ECUs & don't store codes so it shouldn't do a damn thing.

Ah yes, forgot about that, but a reset should still discharge all capacitors.

And the reason it doesn't learn anything is because there isn't any feedback. The ECU takes into account the various sensors on the intake side and then squirts the metered fuel in accordingly, but it has no way of knowing if that mixture is too rich or lean. That's where the lambda sensors comes in (which of course the 1400 doesn't have).

Small world. I used to repair faulty Minimasters when I first joined BT. I would have come running to repair yours, all the way from Edinburgh.  :rofl2:

Yeah folks, understand ECU on 14 just basic no learn. Reset certainly took mine back to riding nicely. Why so, no idea. Great result i thought. 👍
