Title: Service Kit - Where?
Post by: J16SDA on Tuesday, 19 January 2021, 01:27 AM
Good afternoon all,

Looking to service my bike for the 1st time. it's a 2002...

Where is the best place to get all I need to do it? I know where to go for car parts but not for the bike??

I'm in the UK so anywhere I can order online? eBay seem to be around £100

Oil
Oil Filter
Spark Plugs
Air filter

Anything I need to know? i.e. specific oils? plugs? filters? any special tools I'll need to do it? Hints and tips for a 1st timer?

I've serviced all my cars over the last 10 years plus other various repairs needed so I'm not a noobie in that respect.

Oh an oil question  this should go well!

I get my oil & filter from halfords, they do champion filters here (K301) & their own semi bike oil gives me the least top end noise and smoothest gearbox from the ones I've tried.

There seems to be reports of older bikes using fully synth oil suffering from leaking valve stem seals, I guess the 'wrong' oil doesn't soak into them & keep them soft. So it's probably best to sick to semi-synth. Suzuki say 10w40, I don't know of anyone running different.

Pattern air filters seem to have too small a intake in my experience so I fit genuine.

I tried Iridium plugs & they didn't seem to last as long as normal ones, nor did it seem to run quite as nicely.

I tend to get stuff locally from https://awmotorcycleparts.co.uk/ & they do mail order as a big part of their business.

Id agree with what @Hooli said i do much the same as him and our 3 bikes have totalled around 100000 miles without any problems .
I use standard NGK sparkplugs .
I get everything except the airfilter from Halfords.
Get the airfilter from Suzuki.

It didn't upset me, it just amused me as I can imagine which way the thread will go.

My bike has only done 154k in my care (I got it with 7k on) so I know what works for me.

Do you get your air filter from Halfords? Or the website you mentioned? Going to start getting the bits together as the weather is only going to get warmer. So hopefully out sooner :-)

I ordered them from Suzuki, via Robinsons Foundry I think.

We use k&n air filters as they can be cleaned and reused .
These been tested to be 2nd best available air filter after the genuine Suzuki ones .

@J16SDA As i posted earlier in this thread for genuine Suzuki parts, Robinsons of Rochdale will give you a good discount, more than Robinsons Foundry. Follow the link for details
