Title: Whir, whir
Post by: GSX1400Convert on Monday, 11 January 2021, 02:33 PM
My 2008 has started this whiring sound from under the tank (I think). Can hear with IGN on, and motor not running.

Doesn't sound like the 'clicking' of the fuel pump, as it used to sound.

Is it up for a new fuel pump? 67,500klms.

I think if you were up for a new fuel pump, there would be other symptoms, like poor running etc.  It does make that noise when it's priming, maybe yours has a leak at the pressure regulator.  Check this thread from Snapey a while back.

Have you fitted an LED light at all? If so, it'll be the cooling fan for that.

I know this because I experienced the same weird noise and that's what it is!

(When turning the ignition to on there will be a whir for a short time until the fuel system comes up to pressure (few seconds) but it stops then).

Convert, have a search on GSXR with similar symptoms. Secondary Throttle Valve Actuator the culprit. Not saying thats it but sure seems like it. Easier to search n read than me explaining. Part only available as complete throttle body but there are some fixes to be found. Fuel pump should just cycle then stop, pull the fuse and listen again.

Thanks for the thoughts, I know the LED fan noise I have one fitted, I'll look around it again.
It almost sounds like oil cooler fans, but not that as I have no fans fitted.

:whatever: Maybe the LED fan is getting louder with age? I think from memory the fan speeds up on H/beam. That'll be easy to fix.
