Title: Loom/harness
Post by: jimbob43 on Thursday, 10 December 2020, 03:25 PM
I,m building a special framed 14, I,ve a 2003 engine, need to source harness/ecu etc, is there any difference in looms ecu,s  etc over the years, can I fit later throttle bodies to early stuff etc, or do I need to use all from the same year

Someone else may pop in but I believe most of the loom is unchanged.

Later models have an immobiliser so I presume there's extra wiring for that.

This question has arisen before; don't quote me on this but I believe there are differences. Certainly the loom changed between the K4 and K5 models, there would also be a difference between the loom on K2 and K3 models (although slight) for the RH switchgear operation.

If you have a K3, your safe bet would be to use the loom off same.

The lighting , imobiliser and ecu plugs and connectors are all different on later models. There may be other differences too.
Throttle bodies are are same across all years (Very first ones had a aluminium fuel rail instead of steel)
I'd say either use a k3 loom and ecu.
Or get everything electrical from a later model of the same year .
Good luck with the build . :cheers:

I have the chance of a 05 loom and a 04 ecu, i,m sure the engine is 03/04

Loom is listed as 01/06 k5 ecu is 04

Just some of the plugs won't work on the K5 loom with a K4 ECU. Given that you're building a new bike, can't see a problem there myself.  Ideally, K5 loom & ecu (or higher)  or K4 loom & ecu, but a mix would also work, just not some connections.

I'm sure the ECU plug changes between K4 & K5, so probably best to match them up or it's a lot of rewiring to link the two.

K4 single plug as you've got, K5 has two plugs - possibly the orange ones top right of your loom pic.
