I remember reading on here or old forum that its really difficult to change stop/tail globes on 14. Made me hesitant as my first ever blown globe.Load of crap. Tool kit out. magnetic screwdriver, dont want to drop screws, a torch. Reckon its 5 minutes to do both.
As soon as you work out which way up to put your hand it's a doddle isn't it?
About thr same time to change the whole assembly out for a sealed led unit....just sayin'
@grog what on earth were you unscrewing ? They're push turn fittings with the bulb sitting in the socket
Yeah Mate, a bit tempted by that choice. After Xmas maybe. Just gotta juggle what she sees on credit card. I want another set of indicators also. Ill get there.
GSX, didnt know that, just unscrewed the metal rings, wasnt a problem.

Yeah but those look crap & proper lights suit a retro bike a lot better.

I replaced my unit with an LED one and YES it was worth it. Much brighter than globes and never had to touch it again.
Don't be tempted to go for one with integrated indicators though as not only are they illegal in the UK, but they are dangerous is anyone is following you. If braking and indicating at the same time, the indicators are not very visible and can be very confusing for the person behind.
I used one of these..

Ah, got you. I did fit an LED globe to my Bandit a few years ago..Did the job, no problems at all :onya:
Don't LED lights have a smaller viewing angle than proper bulbs? I'd worry about not being seen by people in other lanes if that is still the case.

Yes, you're right
@Hooli :onya:
,
They are still very visible from behind but appear more like two "red eyes" rather than one big red light if that makes sense.
I dont know Hooli, hence im asking. No biggie to me, just wondering.

@VladTepes has 'cos I sent the ones I sourced and used out to him down under and I understand he did fit them. And yes, IMO it is worth it, they are much brighter and easier to see in daylight/sunlight from behind than standard bulbs
I've fitted rear LED's and they are definitely brighter (I only ride in daylight) so will be much brighter at night. For £10 they are worth it in my opinion as they will obviously help you to be seen and who knows, prevent an idiot from shunting you up the back end.
Ill get some Narva ones tomorrow. Not really interested in changing whole unit.
BTW GSX, ill remember push n turn. Hard to be perfect all the time. 😂 Only been a mechanic 50 yrs, been a dickhead 65. Life goes on.

On the bulbs I fitted the actual globe itself was just lightly larger than the hole in the taillight unit and I had to run a round file around the fitting. It was literally just a fraction of a millimetre, but so you know " just in case"
These are the bulbs I fitted no mods just replacement for existing OEM

@grog I've probably changed 30-40 tail light bulbs over 19 years of ownership. Maybe I'm too rough on the gear :happy1:

Yes I do and yes I have and I'd definitely recommend them.
