Title: Front floating Disc Brake Movement
Post by: Big Phil on Thursday, 19 November 2020, 06:37 AM
Hi, Still working on my SRAD 750 brakes and have just checked the thickness of the front discs. Absolutely fine at around 4.8mm each side so happy days🤗 However, one very worrying thing! The right hand side disc bobbins are very loose and can be moved around easily by hand. The right hand side disc can also be moved on the bobbins by approximately 2mm from side to side but very little up and down. The left disc is quite solid with very little if any movement by hand. I have checked my 14 and her front discs feel exactly like the left on the SRAD. So is the right disc on the SRAD buggered as I suspect. If so, is it safe to just replace the buggered one with a good used replacement? I will be fitting new pads to both refurbished calipers.

Again, as always, any advice is much appreciated.

Phil

Hi Big Phil, there should be minimal "up and down" movement, only side to side as thats the floating bit of the rotor. Shouldn't be an issue to replace with a new one or good s/hand.  Check out metalgear.com au ..   if you've got the budget replace both with new to be sure, in case theres any warp in either of them.

If the disk is starting to rattle about on the stator I would replace both disks, unless you can find an original in similar condition disk to your good one if originality is important to you.  It wont get any better and a failure at high speed is not worth thinking about.  EBC do good disks.
