The bike is fast heading to 50,000kms.
I change the oil and filter every 4-5000 kms and have given it a couple of new air filters.
Done the rear pads and doing fronts once they get here. Done the rear wheel bearings and sprocket carrier bearing. Lube and adjust the chain. Gas it up and go !
Question for you blokes with bikes that got a few kms/miles on.
What maintainence if any should I be planning?
just keep doing what your doing.
maybe change all the fluids brakes/clutch if they are starting to look darker.
other than that if it wears pads/chains ect replace when needed .
Engine oil and filter around 8.000 km but minimum every year
Brake and clutch fluid every year
Fork oil every 2 years
Pads when approaching service limit or change bite.
That's my mantra ;)
Maybe think about replacing the seals in the calipers - not a cheap job, but perhaps a complete caliper clean and overhaul may be beneficial when you next get around to changing your brake clutch fluid.
And on that note, when you change your clutch fluid, just lift off the slave cylinder so you can see the clutch push rod, as often it gets a bit clogged up around there with chain grease and mucky.
Neither is absolutely necessary, but to me, just general good upkeep. I did a set of calipers recently that all seemed to be working ok, but the seals had hardened and the pistons were a so and so to get out. Time we finished though they all worked like new and braking was improved - some of the seals had started to harden
No mention of valve clearance ? What sort of milage you guys doing before checking them.
Thanks for your feedback fellas.
check the valves if you like but a bit early yet :boogie: :onya:
Cheers Seth just what I wanted to hear. I believe its a head off job ?
I should really buy a Haynes manual.
no no :onya:
not head off cams all be done in the frame
you move the coils out of the way take the cover off and all accessible
to check sim clearances and change if needed with head on
:boogie:
you can download the suzuki workshop manual in the downloads section here

True, sometimes cross referencing with the Haynes manual can be useful too though

Thanks Gents :)
Kiwifruit, just my couple of bucks worth. we have a different maintenance thing to the cold places. never get to lay the bike up for months, want to ride all year. i would love an extra 3 months in year just to put her off the road, attempt major re dos. my system/plan is just do what you think needs doing in no particular time frame. if it enters my head it worries me, get onto it. normal stuff is just normal stuff. oil, fluids, chain lube. other stuff i do, checkover nuts n bolts at least once a year. easy, a few beers and sit with bike, sockets n spanners. check every nut/bolt you can find. adjust head brgs, buy a spring balance and do by book. important. idle n tps every 2 yrs. spray throttle housing and cables, clean that clutch pushrod, seal can only be replaced with major engine split. it gives chance to clean all around f sprocket. i do that. how to lube cluth pushrod is in manual, mix grease n oil, spin it in seal. valve clearance, never in my head, will go forever without adjust. spray the ign switch. just ride it, so easy to get on with. im sure ive missed other things i do but sorry to bore you blokes with more.
I get your point about not having a lay up. I will do the clutch and brake fluid when I do the front pads.
Will put the spanners over it. Doing a Track Day on Sunday so will give it a birthday first.
Seems like the general consensus is they are pretty bullet proof.
Which is one of the reasons I bought it in the first place.
bulletproof, but still love tlc. aiways something to change, polish , adjust. just makes me feel good.
I just finished the forks with a seal/slider kit & new oil. The oil was two years old with less than 40,000kms and it was putrid.
So in future, rather than going by the book & changing the oil every two years I'll now go by mileage and change it at 20,000kms instead.
Every 2 years if you don't do high mileage.
Pete, what oil and how much did you put in please ?

Motul 10W expert. The K2 manual said 644ml but mine is a K5 & was low so I poured in another 50ml to bring the level to 108mm. So it looks like I'm at about 700ml per fork.
Thanks guys. :)
