Title: Green slip rip off
Post by: Snapey on Friday, 30 October 2020, 09:27 PM
My green slip renewal from Allianz arrived in the post today for my Hilux ute .... $811. Last year $434, so I did the usual company comparison and find an Allianz quote for $686 ... $125 less.

I'll be phoning these bastards later to see what bull shit excuse they have to justify the difference but mainly to find out why my premium jumped by about 90%.

It's all to do with hitting stupid targets for getting new customers, an online quote will be classed as a new customer whereas a renewal is for the poor sap who wants to stay loyal.  They are trying to change the law here to stop that kind of shit going on, all insurance companies will have to offer everyone a fair price not discount new customers at the expense of existing customers.  The only company in the UK that does not do this at the moment is BeMoto as far as I know, they reward existing customers with better prices.  Insurance companies are mostly twats who know you have to have it so just take the piss.

@mjgt
That's for third party cover, Snapey will have insurance on top of that and then the road tax, even when it's divided by 2 to bring it to GBP it's a bloody rip off.

I would have thought with all the COVID lockdowns and people working from home, there should be fewer miles driven and therefore fewer claims. So really we should be getting money off.

defo - my cars annual mileage is 12k, done just 1k since march as mrs Notty was shielded so I now estimate my annual mileage down to 4k so saved £200 on my insurance  :)

We did here in NZ!  My Insurance co gave us cash back (into our bank account) because of Covid & less vehicles crashing & less claims.  AA Insurance if you want to know.
