Title: Bagster tank cover
Post by: Duncan on Wednesday, 14 October 2020, 07:20 PM
Hi, I recently purchased my first gsx1400 and it came with a bagster tank cover. Is it recommended to leave them on all the time? I've never used one before and don't know if they can cause issues with rubbing etc if left on for too long. Thanks,

A Bagster cover is probably the best cover you can buy for protecting the tank - just make sure your tank is nice and clean before fitting it.
on my 14, I used to leave it on all year round, as the paint on Suzuki tanks is not the thickest and prone to chips from stones etc.

So its personal choice whether you leave it on or not, but leaving it on will not cause any issues

Mine did too (I was impressed at how accurate the colour scheme was on it) and I also wondered that. But I'm too much of a kid to hide that glistening metallic blue so it stays on the top shelf in my garage along with the top box and frame not old enough for all that yet.  :stir:  I protect my paint with a few coats of ceramic coating which would also help protect the paint under that cover if you wanted to do both. Do a correction on the paint first then slap a few coats of (highest grade you can afford) ceramic on and you'll have 5-ish extra microns per coat protecting your paint. Normal clear coat is 35-50 microns they say.

If you`re intending to strap luggage to your tank, then i do see the point of fitting a cover temporarily. But if you`re covering it long-term in an effort to safeguard the paint then it kinda doesn`t matter how perfect your paint is `cause it`ll never be seen :confused1:

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'll put it on if weather is crappy, and leave it off to show off the gorgeous tank when the sun is shining 👍

So you will be putting it on a few times a year.
