Title: Quick drain valve
Post by: Tally on Saturday, 03 October 2020, 03:53 AM
My quick drain valve arrived today and it says torque to manufacturers specification , my question is how do I do that if you can't apply a torque wrench to it . Do I have to go by feel???. 14ft,lbs is not very much, your replies are most welcomed  :notworthy:

Just don't go mad as the sump threads are very soft and strip easily .

I'll go by the mantra if it feels tight that's tight enough  :onya:

Use a short spanner

Many years ago bike tool kits had short spanners to stop people overtightening nuts, until they put a bit of tubing on it to gain leverage

Practice getting a feel for it by hand tightening the stock sump plug or something else and seeing how close you get? 14 ft/lbs isn't that much. I'd call it "one grunt" tight or "mid spanner" tight.
