A new heading, along the lines of what did you buy today. Today i saw a black n red, looked as new. Dont know its model, saw at traffic lights in town i work. It was turbo charged. Made my day. If youre on this site Mate, love to hear your story. Nice bike.
A guy riding an electric scooter - so what? I hear you say.......well, this bloke was riding it down the road (as opposed to a cycle lane or footpath), and due to the traffic flow in the area, i was able to `tuck in` behind him for half-mile or so, and i clocked him doing a sustained 23/4mph (GPS), FFS! Impressive or what!!! The thing even had a small rear light beneath the footplate either side of the rear wheel.
A mate just happens to have one gathering dust in his garage, and having ridden it in his garden last summer, i must admit to it being great fun, and i want one, though i do admit that the copious ammount of `San Miguel` consumed beforehand may have swayed my judgement a little on the day!!
However, they surely aren`t road legal in the UK are they? Even if they were, i can only imagine the carnage following the front wheel dissapearing down the first pothole at 24mph dressed in nothing more than a pair flip-flops, shorts and a T-shirt........
The worlds gone bonkers !
Saw my Postie turn up with my new Tyres that I ordered just on a month ago
I saw the Royal Mail postman today who said hello as he dropped off my new LED indicators and Flasher unit. Really nice guy, especially as he comes bringing gifts🤗😍🤗😍
Today i saw a P Plater, 80 zone, reckon he was going 140 or so. Weaving between cars, dual lane, missing by not much. I wonder if he'll last long enough to get his open licence. Those ones sure annoy me.
Yesterday i saw a beautiful blue n white K7 in Caloundra, polished rims and cardboard box strapped on seat. Today was a black n red, very nice. Most 14 ive seen here for ages. On here fellas?
Reading second post, I remind I see this summer...
Guy riding on bicycle.
Quite fast.
Among pedestrians.
Talking cellphone.
OK, this happens from time to time, but...
I assume, he was deaf, cause he "talk" video call, holding phone in one hand, while communicating with another...
All the debris from the cedars and firs on the drive and basketball court - Blower dead so what did I see??? ... Lots of pushing a broom!
Today at bike shop ordering tyre, they had two beauties sitting there. 450 Ducati Shotgun and R90s BMW in smoke grey. Made my day.

I've ridden both of those, the 450 around Mac Park in Mt Gambier and the R 90s on the snowie Mountains Highway, cool bikes
R90S, only BMW ive ever wanted to own. Loved that black/silver colour. 1975 had my old XS650 painted same.
To be honest, I got off my Darmah onto it and it was chuffy comparatively, I thought it had a burnt valve but was assured that that was how they were, not for me
You were getting off one of the worlds best, amazing bikes Darmah. Mine for 15 years, why i sold. No idea.
Onwards and upwards can sometimes go a little backwards in hindsight

Been a while since this topic. Yesterday saw a bloke on GS BMW filtering, knocked mirror off car in rh lane with his handguard. No stopping just zoomed away😡😡👎
Must have been late to Costa on his Wank Panzer.
I was at Wulkuraka early this morning and saw a Blue GSX with a sidecar and a trailer which was surprisingly loaded down. The rider appears to be an older gentleman. If you're on here give us a shout out and post a pic please 🙏.
Think I saw the same one in Port Douglas. Had a chat with him and he had drove it from Perth to Port Douglas. Told him about the forum and he was going to look into it. Next plan he had was to make a high sleeper of the sidecar, he was tired of putting up the tent every time.
I'm fairly sure the one I saw has solid blue tank, however it was a cursory glance as he passed.
Not me but mate sent ne this link. I'm not on FB, but had a looksee. Seems very well looked after FE and some spares as well. Don't know about the price tag though...

Out this morning with the local "Motor Enthusiasts" group. A funny bunch, very cool and very open minded, they just like stuff with motors! A monthly meet with a coffee van and bacon and eggs on the BBQ.
Today we had locals with a Farrari, a few Jags, a few MG's, a Unimog truck, a model T-Ford, an F series Ute, a Rolls Royce, a Javlin and a real mix of others. Only 4 or 5 bikes but I did park next to a quite nice GT500 again. Funny seeing a truck, a Farrari, a Yam XV250 bobber, a B-King and a Model T roll in together. One of the MG owners has a very early build Hayabusa and another guy has 3 CB750 Automatics.
I love their thinking.

I'd love a GT500, it'd be a bit of fun to go to coffee and cars, just like my 44 year old GSX1100, but they are very dated now and aren't what I enjoy. I've had GT250's and a Super-Six, I've moved on.
Bit like all the folk on GSX14's and not old GS750's.
Not today, but last week.
A brand new in the crate GSXR750.
Obviously a few years old (I think only the US still gets new recent built ones). It was a registered a while back by a dealership so it can be road ridden despite not meeting current ADR specs. No idea on value but I couldn't find another one.

Me too. A GT550 would be preferred though. Add a Honda CB550 too. :smitten:
I got back into riding in 2013, last had a Honda four in 79. So I got the nostalgia bug in 2013 and bought a basket case Honda Four K2. By the time I had it all up n running it had cost me $25 Gs and I did it all myself except for machining the bores. Then I bought a 76 Z900 and put 10Gs into that. Not long after I got a 2006 1250 Bandit and that's when I realised the old bikes had nuthin'
Old clunkers they are to me. After riding more modern bikes how the hell can you want to ride an old clunker ever. That's just me though. My 1402 cost me 6 Gs, the ZX cost me 6.5Gs. I see all these guys on the Honda cb750 forum spending shit loads of dough tryin to get those jokes to go a "bit" faster. I just shake my head.
Here're pics of the money pit clunkers. While they look great my ZX14 is light years better and that's a 2007 bike. If only I could afford a new one.
They do look immaculate Nic, fabulous resto on them. Shame it cost so much to do though, would you be able to recover your costs ya reckon?
Quote from: KiwiCol on Monday, 04 November 2024, 08:41 AMThey do look immaculate Nic, fabulous resto on them. Shame it cost so much to do though, would you be able to recover your costs ya reckon?
Thanks Col, I've since moved on n sold both. I lost my arse on the Honda and made a small profit on the Z900. It was a case of falling out of love with both bikes, once I realised that, well it was obvious what I had to do.
It was pretty funny in a not so funny way though, when I was doing up the Honda all I could think was that I'm going back to the good ol 70s. Rebuilding the engine I think was the best part of it, I used to be a bike mech at a Honda dealer and when I think back, the best part of the whole Honda build was working on the engine. Riding the darn thing was a different matter.
Once I rego'd the bike it hit me straight away. I was never going back to the 70s, it just never felt like the 70s. I had to work my way back into riding, hahah, at first I couldn't ride on the hiway at 100kph, it was just too fast, the thing that helped me push back up and be able to ride at 100 were all the cages right up my arse, that got old real quick. For a couple of years I rode the bike but it was always a chore really, wind noise freaked me out, I don't remember ever thinking of wind noise back then but now it was intolerable, even with ear plugs it was a real bummer.
One day I took a Blackbird on a test ride just because the opportunity presented itself, enter preferred expletive here:
After that it was only a matter of time before the old clunkers went their merry way. I've been riding now for 11 years and that's longer than I did back then. It's been a trip, arse pain almost put an end to riding a few years ago but the ZX14 is great in that regard, I've had about 6 or 7 bikes since 2013 and the ZX is the best as far as arse pain goes.
Anyway, yeah, did my arse on the Honda, learnt a thing or two and went better with the Kwaka. Now I just buy ready made cheapish bikes. The old clunkers are alive n well only in my memory now.
I'm thankful that I do actually love the ZX14 and that I'm still riding, I would love to upgrade to a gen 2 but for now I'll just stick with the gen 1.
Cheers, thanks for letting an old fool tell a tale or two :onya:
You're very welcome mate & good on ya. Love the 'ole tales'
A lot of that rings true for me too Nic.
I have a couple of bikes that are 40+ years old, I like the history, but I accept them for what they are, no rose tinted glasses, no living in the 80's, we have a roll top desk and a 12 gauge with Damascus barrels, they make me smile, but not for being better than the latest versions. I do love older stuff, even my little Villiers concrete mixer or old Fergie tractor, but I accept the gains made in cars, bikes and houses too. It's good to mix it up, what you are passionate about, and what works best.
Agree about older bikes/ cars, a big shock to use, memory certainly lies about how good they were. Cruise control, were all different.Never tried on a bike, just not for me in cars, had several cars with it,tried to use but dont like it.

My Mrs has a 180k drive to work, her cars have had cruise control for many years, she's never used it once and has zero interest in it.
I pull out of my driveway and the moment I hit the speed limit it's on.
The first car I had with CC I thought it was fantastic and still do, on a bike I'm pretty sure I'd use it mostly to rest the hand but you never know?
Love the cc on my BMW K1300GT, never thought i would on a bike, but having it is very nice
Sorry fellas, throttle rocker on 14, been there multiple years, wish id had one back in Ducati days, all i need now.No cruise control, no led screen,no abs, probably lots of other crap missing. I can charge my phone, look for speed traps on Waze, about all i need.
All this talk about cruise control just reminded me of this little anecdote:
Was probably around 1971, I was 17 and had this old 59 FC Holden, those who know the old grey motor Holdens know how gutless they were. So I'm driving this thing with a few o the boys from Canberra to Queensland up through the inland route via Dubbo etc.
The drive is full of long boring straight stretches of road. Somehow I came across this piece of 2 inch plastic pipe, it was the exact length so that you could jam it in between the accelerator and the underside of the dash, you'd have the car goin flat stick down these straights at about 90 MPH, if you needed to slow down you just kicked the pipe outta there.
I reckon this is probably the worlds first cruise control
At least Australia's first  Oh what memories what memories brfff.
Very good Nic FC one of my all time favourites. My old wagon Fc, unreal car but motor used copious oil, i carried 20l drum of sump oil to keep topping it up.

Yes Grog, sump oil was the way to go. I had so many of those grey motor Holdens, you'd get em for forty bucks with 3 months rego and bald tyres. You learned quickly that it was pointless trying to re rego them and just went n bought another one, so many I had. Couldn't afford the EH ( came out in 64 ) that had the first of the red motors, such a way better car but I just couldn't afford the EH. So many great memories from the grey motor days though.
Here's a pic of my FB panel van, did many miles in that one, put triple carbs on it and it glazed up the bore  got a pic of the engine somewhere. That's me on the left.
Just saw whats just on the horizon. Hoping no hail or huge winds. Thunder already announcing its arrival

I dropper her off in the city on Weds to meet up with her daughter.
She loves the cooler temps and has always wanted a Xmas around a Vienna, Prague, Florence, Barcelona trip. She's an Aussie girl so although she's traveled quite a bit she still finds it "different"
When she gets home we will book something together, I do like Cambodia and Thailand but have never been to Vietnam.
Cold weather and long haul flights do nothing for me.
I will be having a warm and quiet Xmas.
Today a bit of pruning😂Never plant a Yucca.
Well done mate. When we bought our current place, it had yuccas all along the front. I couldn't dig them out by hand, so I used my 4wd and a snatch strap to pull up the stump after chopping the spiny bits off them. Similar size as in your photo. Worked really well, I did pull up a storm water poly pipe, but a new elbow fitting and short work with a shovel fixed that.
Quote from: grog on Friday, 20 December 2024, 12:53 PMToday a bit of pruning😂Never plant a Yucca.
My two are Bamboo and Palms.
Had them at both the last two places I renovated and sold. Nothing but problems and work. There isn't either where I am now and that's how it'll stay.
Just about removed the cactus's, thistles and lantana. The majority I'm planting are controllable natives, mostly wattles and gums or stuff like Red Robins or Double Mays and Jacaranda.
My next is Himalayan Ash, info at time said a small street tree, safe under power lines. Picture doesnt show how huge it really is,doesnt really show the price tag for removal.Lets say ST-1 & Cyclone wait a while longer.
I have several Hoop Pines and Bunya Pines. No idea how big they are, I'd guess between 40 or 50 metres. They tower over most of my fully grown gum trees and wattles.
Fortunately they are away from the house and down in the area I've set aside as a bit of a nature reserve. They aren't far from a spring and a creek, so although they never flood they don't struggle in a drought.
I'll take a pic when I'm down there.
I'd love more bigger trees... just not near my house or power lines.
Edit: it's a bit of a learning curve for me, what does or doesn't grow well here is a bit different to other places I've lived.

City's here are similar, I did a lot of subdivisions with 450m2 blocks. You could step from one roof to the next.
Huge difference here between city's and rural prices, land isn't worth much away from the coast. I sold an old timber house on 700m2 in the city for double the price of a new brick house with sheds on 20 acres. Not even somewhere remote, I still have a local shop, doc etc. No one here wants to be 2 hours from the coast, the prices drop dramatically. I could have bought much more land if I'd gone further West but not in a desirable location. It's a bit like London £ v Welsh Valleys or Scotland.

Cheeky bugger Col 😵💫😵💫😵💫
I've no idea what you're implying 😈😈😈🤡🤡
I had a Burgman 650. It was a hand-me-down from my dad. He gave it up because of hardly being able to handle it when the motor was off. This was not because of its weight, but the drive system. Even hard for this strong young man. For me it had one added negative point. There were only a couple of millimeters wiggle-room for knees. Reduced the sliding range on the seat - annoying but not really a big deal.
Otherwise it was great. On acceleration it felt like it had a lot more horse power than the claimed 52. I attribute that to the drive system as well. Handled very well on the road. IMO due to the bike-sized wheels.
They also had manual override which made it quite nimble I embarrassed a few sorts bike riders on Mount Glorious once😈
Brings back some good memories seeing Amaroo Park. Was there in early 80's helping mates on an XS1100 in the Castrol 6hr. Some teams were chilling their fuel to get more in. Well it pissed down and it was seriously cold. At the start I saw fuel tanks turned white covered in frost. It was a miserable day pissed down for the whole race.
A couple of trips there. Joe Eastmure most famous win , beat everyone on 315 Suzuki Rebel. He lives not far away, hosts rides regularly.Must do it.
Wasn't the Rebel a 350? :confused1:
Yeah Col sold as 350, actual displacement 315cc
What I saw today was some red & blue flashing lights doing a U turn after me! Was in the Merc, just overtook a slow car & a cop busted me at 115k's. Bit lucky really as I was doing 130 past the car & was slowing down to normal, speed 100k. When he got out of the car it was my neighbour! Felt a bit sorry for him to be in that position, he just said I'll get a ticket in the mail, said it'll be $30 & he'll put it down as exceeding 100k. Lucky I guess. :clapping:
Look on the bright side Col, if you where in NSW Oz $285 and 3 points.
I'm lucky alright, just bummed out with a speeding ticket, could have been much more as ya say. Must be beer o'clock I reckon!

Heading towards the city on my Gen-3. A long straight that's well known spot for speeders. Not much traffic, a ute that was way behind me suddenly catches me up. I consider giving it a twist of the wrist but think "not here". Tap the cruise control at my normal 103 and cruise. Red P player pulls out, floors it, and passes me, not a drama.
Car coming the other way suddenly lights up red and blue with a "Whoop-Woop".
Ute pulls over onto the shoulder, I cruise past and go on my way.
It wasn't our local cop but a roaming traffic car far from home. It's so temping to pull the wire but I got lucky with a bit of self control this time.

I've had a lot of off road / trail bikes in the past, not recently.
Mrs said to go buy it, but I'm unsure how much I'd actually use it once the novelty wore off.
Still undecided.

How much ?
That anti vibration method isn't exactly new, however I'm sure Suzuki have improved it.
Nice colour choices too.

Between 16 and 17k. There's a couple of versions, not sure we get the lower seat smaller front wheel one here. This is the slightly more dirt version.
Same new parallel twin as in the GSX8S roadbike, but better suited to the dirt than highways IMO.
Probably more than I should spend, but the alternative would be an old SV style V- Strom, a used DR600 or DRZ400, none of which get my attention.
Might go and see what older stuffs on Bikesales.
Tony, i reckon for that sort of riding a good old DR,5g away you go. Bike Sales 2003 17k Gold Coast.Enough bucks left for that FE you like.

Save $$$ and buy a well sorted cheap DR650 and just have fun.
Today I saw 2 less hens.
First ones I've lost to a snake.
A lot of my place is laid out and planted or put aside for wildlife, so I can't really complain when wildlife does what wildlife does. I'm sad about losing a couple of very tame hens, but I'd have been more upset if it had been a fox.
A reasonable size Coastal Carpet Python. Not hard to relocate when it eaten a whole hen !
On a positive note, it's nice to see a snake here that's non-venomous for a change. Much easier to deal with.

That slows it down .... Poor Mrs Hen... I don't mind Snakes, fascinating creatures.
Tony, sad for your chooks.Reason no chooks for me, attract rats n snakes, hate both of them.Pythons ok, we had a giant one here once, Browns &Taipans, theyre just killing machines, they simply dont like us, so fast.

Yeah, I don't do anything to over encourage them, I keep the lawns short, the yard tidy, don't give them an ideal home near the house, but you can't make everything snake proof.
I have a few Eastern Browns, Red Bellied Blacks and Black Snakes around the place so im normally pretty cautious. I don't harm them, no point, it's illegal and another would soon take its place.
Nature doing what nature does.

Yeah, I don't have a drama with pythons, even the larger ones, most aren't too bad to deal with.
The larger Eastern Brown I see never heads for cover, always stands its ground. The only fatality recently near here was from an Eastern Brown, two of my neighbours have lost dogs to Eastern Browns. Had a few around me doing earthworks, I'm not so keen to deal with them.

Mower attachment on the back of your tractor would sort them out. :onya:

I try not to, but I've run over a small Red Bellied Black and a young rabbit recently. My 4 & 1/2 foot slasher is set pretty low and gives anything in its path a serious haircut.

An old piccy Tony but what are all those Vintage bikes??🤷
A month ago rang local council, pot holes, road degradation outside my place.I thought would take forever, totally wrong. Lots of bikes use my road so needed attention. Today all action, re tarred one section, back tomorrow to do another 100 metres.Incredible result👏

One man working, three watching...roadies are the same the world over!
Cant argue result, quite amazing. Tomorrow is finish to corner. Spent many days coming round to dodge pot hole
I like how your guys finish one bit & then do the next. Here they'd dig it all up for days & then recover the lot, so they could leave the roadworks up for weeks on end.
Here the water company dig up the road, replace pipes and resurface the road. Week after Gas company comes and digs up the same bit of road to repair pipes and then they resurface the road. Week later phone company comes along and does the same thing before the Electricity chaps turn up after another week. We could have our road dug up a number of times and taking 2 months to finally fuck off to the next village, still they'll be back soon to start on another bit of road.
bureaucracy at it's finest!!
In NZ we love a road cone and traffic management festival. They can run for weeks on end.

If it's like the UK I'm convinced they own way too many cones & it's cheaper to store them on the road than pay for warehouse space.
Mine finished today, perfect job, so bloody quick, ive no complaints. Not often council is good but this time Yes. 👍👍

Just wait till your next rates bill. :whistling:
Mick, just got rates bill, i applied for pensioner discount, back dated it, now $280 in credit. First and last time im guessing😎
No government discount for anything here. If anyone dares to ask I am sure they raise taxes more. Politians' thoughts will be: Shite, everything is getting so expensive - lets raise my pay and add a bonus (or 2) as well.
A Brisbane member off here had a ride out to see me and bought me some gifts, like me his 14 is off the road at the moment but at least he's still brand loyal.
He said to take it for a spin but I'll wait untill we have more time and do a ride out somewhere and he can try one of mine.
