Just briefly, I was involved in such a violent financial catastrophe that I lost all my tools and parts and everything. A total walk out #tmi so here I am at the age of 55 rebuilding again from scratch. Buying my 2008 K7 (plus a bit of early released super - not going to lie) I've started hunting to rebuild my tool chest. I prefer used, old very high quality tools and I'll use this thread to post some of the really cool finds starting with my excellent quality BRITOOL torque wrenches.
I found the 3/8 torque wrench on Gumtree and when I inquired I discovered that he also had the 1/2 inch wrench so I bought them both for just $150 which I think is an bargain and if it's not I'm certainly happy to own two cool old British torque wrenches. These belonged to his departed brother who was born in 1920 (much older than him) and was a mechanic his entire life from 1936 age 16. He was a British chap (English I think) and I know how you Brits LOVE making great very high quality tools. These belonged to his brother and said they were from the late 50s or early 60s. I used them on my several things so far. The oil sump drain bolt and top shock bolts but I'm sure I'll use them for many many things. They have a micrometer style torque setting gauge such a great positive "knee action" clicker and I just love them.
I would love to hear about great old tool or garage stuff you've scored, been given or found or even stories of amazing finds you heard about. For example, I bought a hand made Jarrah work bench today with all sorts of beautiful mortise and tenon joinery, massive extreme duty wood vices on both ends, a tool tray built in and dogs all the way down the front. I'll be posting about it later after I take some daylight pics showing all the key features. He also gave me some more old tools when I admitted my fetish - he just started handing them over..."and you can have this...and this...and do you want these?". It was a cool as hell day today. He loved that someone who appreciated it would be buying it - wait until you see it, it's magnificent.
Show us yer cool tools! They don't have to be old, if you love 'em I want to see 'em. Even garage/workshop pics would be cool. I'm also a member over at https://www.garagejournal.com/ because the owner there is an old hot rodder (like me) and loves old school anything. Totally worth a visit but be warned, you'll spend many hours there. It's addictive.
I'll kick this off with pics of the BRITOOL Torque wrenches.
Good stuff mate !
Sadly the tools I have are adequate but not special.
I like good old tools as well !
some of you older Aussies may remember this brand, got a set of these back in the 70`s and still work as new

One of other threads reminded me of this, first purchase when I started my Apprenticeship after rooting a couple of side cover JIS screws on a Honda CB 550, and being made to get them out without damaging the sidecover would have been 1974

Here`s another old tool that I love, and use all the time, would be about circa 1980

Jigsaw is so cool! Love that impact driver as well. Love a good tin case. These days it all plastic. As an ex-metal worker, plastic offends me a little bit. Funny as I now make my living polishing the damn stuff.
That Bahco multi grip is cool too. Never seen one work like that.
Was also admiring your puller. Looks hand crafted?

just a cheapie modified for a job
My Fluke75 from early 80s, one of the first digital, cost heaps but has never failed. Boomans Germany Roll Grip, only one ive seen, just doesnt slip. Primus Kit, late 70s i think i got it, probably still has original gas.
I like the look of the Fluke, minimal options compared to the hundreds on modern ones that I have no idea what they are

Is that how old those impact drivers are? I've got one & used it the other day, exactly the same. Knew I'd had it a while, but '74? Suppose it would of been around that era. These things remind us of how old we are, when we work it out.
I've got an identical one I bought in the 90s, some designs just don't change.

Priceless when you need it, which I must admit isn't very often nowadays
This one is modern compared to the home made one I still use.
I used this 1929 model for many years.
@Snapey I thought you where giving that one to me.
I had an old Maxon gave it to a guy for a carton of beer, what was I thinking.
Dad's compressor that still works a treat although the yellow one is my go to.
I found these tools in my dad's shed a couple of years ago, I made them in the training centre as an apprentice 1977.
@grog your roll grips we called footprints all the leverage could be put on one leg and they didn't let go.

I had one bought early eighties and bought another about 5 years ago but the spring clip on it tends to come away from the groove, not the same quality.

Sinking deeper and deeper into ignorance. Had a bit of a Google search...Electrical Discharge Machine?
QuoteWire electrical discharge machining (EDM) is a process of metal machining in which a tool discharges thousands of sparks to a metal workpiece. A non-conventional process, though hardly a new one, wire EDM works on parts resistant to conventional machining processes, but only if these parts are electrically conductive; usually, they are non-ferrous, and include steel, titanium, superalloys, brass, and many other metals. Instead of cutting the material, EDM melts or vaporizes it, producing comparatively small chips and providing a very accurate cut line. Industry-wide acceptance has led to a wide variety of EDM applications, as it is highly versatile, can cut hard metals, and utilizes a relatively compact amount of workspace.
Thanks Irish, footprints. Now ive seen two. They sure grip better than Multi or Vice grips.

I thought you polished plastic dies for a living & as such would be very familiar with EDM's. Got that wrong obviously. :embarassed:
That machine you're struggling to name is simply a filing machine. It takes a special machine file and just goes up and down & is mainly used to file an angle for slug clearance in a press tool die block.
This tool is perfect for lathe work. BTW, it's not assembled.
A couple of spanners and general shit I refuse to throw away.

Mine has Rollgrip written on it. Boomans of Germany. Cant find any reference to them at all. Id like to. Cant even remember where i bought it. Im thinking it was from a tool shop we used to go to, ogle at tools we couldnt afford. They sold stuff like Stahwille, Bahco, Proto, Beta, SK Wayne. We could only afford Sidchrome, Fuller, Stanley etc. My 3/8 socket set, got at 16 yrs. Now 49 yrs old, reckon its still 70% original. Minimax. They replaced ratchets guts, unconditional guarantee, Repco agents. Mustve renewed for 30 yrs until no more parts available, maybe 4 times.
I'm trying to find a photo of

I especially love a good old tool restoration. I watch old tool restorations on YouTube all the time. You should consider starting a YouTube channel and film all your restorations. No music though, just sounds of tools doing the restoration with or without text or narration. Might make a few bucks from advertisers who love us spendy guys.
OI'd love a decent drill press - all the new ones are way too expensive for what they are. Not solid etc.

A drill press is very limiting Michael. See if you can pick up a second hand belt drive drill/mill like this over priced one from H & F. https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/M121 With the mill option your work piece is not stuck in the one position like a drill press and you're then able to mill slots or face mill. Stay away from geared head machines as the gears apparently break under load and if you fit a DRO you'll get that extra bit of accuracy.
I have a H&F like that one, bought it off a bloke I did some work for about 15 years ago for $250 complete with a good vise. Been a great tool for little jobs. Not long after I bought it my son spent 2 days machining aluminium plates for a packaging machine I was modifying. Saved me a fortune, he was only about 16 then but I payed him well honestly it was above award rate.
I had a nice old cast iron tool for roll-crimping shotgun shells. Unfortunately it must have had a fault in the casting as i was using it late last year and it broke into two pieces. It's still possible to get new ones (from eastern Europe somewhere, or China) but the manufacturing quality and materials are not at all good. :(
I keep an eye out at flea markets /car boot sales etc as they sometimes crop up among woodworking tools etc as they come "from grandpas house when he died" and the seller has no idea what it is.

I have full titanium Akrapovic exhaust system from Australia. The postage was a massacre
So today I started with NPR300/6 scissors renovating. It will be challenge. Absolutely all parts are damaged.
But what would one expect from a scrapyard...
Today I disassembled the scissors and repaired the first part. I repaired damaged teeth on the lever. The only problem is that almost all parts are made from "litina" in my language. Cast iron in english probably. This material is complicated to weld. It must be heat up before welding and cool very slowly.
Here is my solution.
Heating in boiler...

Vic, had a look at anvils, seems mines just a baby at 35 kg.
Next part for scissors ready. New jaws. Made to order because the manufacturer of scissors no longer exists.

Next part will be main body. It's totally squeezed. Needs to make some housing for a new precise screw.
@V_i_c_i you should do youtube clips of your restos :)
Finally almost done. All I have to do is paint one part and make a stand. They work perfectly. It is not a problem to cut from paper up to 6mm thick iron. :boogie2:

PS: Excuse the mess in the barn and the cat in the photo (everytime wants to help me) :rofl2:
I've had this lying around for ages but had no idea what it was or did .... until now. Once I knew what fitted in the end of the jaws the penny dropped. Who knows what it is?
I just had a clean out of old tools I've never used or even why you'd bother. This lathe centering device is beautifully engineered but not much use these days.
Another tool I've never seen used in my 60+ years in the trade are toolmakers buttons.
Snapey - isn`t the tool in your photo`s the `Mk2 Medieval Penis Crusher`?? I think the `Mk1`had only two jaws and they had terrible trouble with slippage, hence the mod. :rofl2:
