Holy shite ! Did you see that ?!
Some clown was storing nearly 3,000 tons of Ammonium Nitrate in a warehouse...
All it took was a fire and...

That sure was one hell of a bang. Apparently the Ammonium Nitrate had been stored there since 2014. Either way, never seen anything like that, absolutely terrible
4.5 on the Richter scale. Big bang alright.
Bloody hell that's a proper explosion!
The shock wave is quite visible and the sound was heard 230 km's away in Cypress it's very sad and so stupid.
Destroyed the entire port, terrible accident.
apparently a fire started by someone welding nearby....
Dreadful :bugga:
Some photos here show how bad it is...

(scroll down on that page and see the ones where you can move the line to show the before and after contrast ! ) Gives a real idea of the extent of the devastation.

attached is before and after of the site where the ammonium nitrate was stored, and silos behind.
Staggering.
That is a bloody mess!
Terrible devastation and loss of life and property. Someone is surely going to pay the price for allowing so much Ammonium Nitrate to be stored in one place so close to a densely populated area.
I see the entire government has resigned over this.
Catch 22 really they couldn't really ignore the very vocal protests about it.
On the other hand a country like Lebanon suddenly without any government stability is probably not a good thing either...
I hadn't seen that news, maybe they'll be a Belgium? and do better without one?
18 Billion US Dollars in damage ??? ??? ??? ??? How will they pay for that. Their inflation is running around 2000%. The only silo's for the entire country blown up and all the grain poisoned by the gas given off by Ammonium Nitrate exploding, so food shortages very soon. :frustrated: :frustrated:
If they had used it on the crap ground they have over there, they could have had crops.
@VladTepes another spell check required "Exploasion"

:rofl2:, Yep, I've been resisting the amendment, but it does sorta get at ya doesn't it. :happy1: :whistling:
It should say 'exploderationings' shouldn't it?
On one of the news reports they say that fireworks were also stored in the same warehouse and in one of the videos on the internet you can plainly see flashes through the smoke moments before it all exploded. I must say I've never seen an explosion on that magnitude before, I've seen controlled detonations by the military of captured ordnance, but nothing like that. :cry2:

I think those flashes were electric cables melting and shorting out, not fireworks. However, storing that together isn't smart, storing over 2000kg of ammonium nitrate together in one place is just plain idiotic.
Yeah especially as it was just in a warehouse essentially and not a purpose built facility.
I'm surprised it wasn't next to a service staion selling bulk diesel...
Yes Vlad, it would appear that ammonium nitrate and diesel can party together but they don't like ....
Mr ignition source :smoke: :smoke:
Vlad, probably was a servo next door, just cant find it now. Did you see story where they want to store similar amount Newcastle NSW. WTF

Well that would have to be the Chinese as they virtually run the Port of Newcastle

They already store heaps there - in a purpose built facility. The situation is entirely UNLIKE that in Lebanon.
Doesnt make the locals any happier, totally monitored they say.
When was the last time novocastrians were happy?
