Title: Oil temperature gauge
Post by: Big Phil on Tuesday, 21 July 2020, 06:42 AM
Thinking of getting one of those oil temperature gauges that fits onto the oil filler cap on the engine. Anyone else fitted one? It's just another bit of bling if I'm honest (Can't seem to help myself) but might be interesting to see how hot my girl gets😂🤣😂

Had on for years
They are more bling but do give an idea how hot the motor gets on hot days when stuck in traffic or while filtering .
Mines been well in the red lots of times but the bike always ran just fine.

You must put a lot of miles on your bike Seth I can't recall Scotland ever having a hot day, a dry day or two perhaps but hot🥵😎😅

Seems like JMP are the only people who make screw in oil temp gauges. Are there any other choices or manufacturers? Trying to decide between black and silver bodies and faces. I've always wanted an oil filled gauge and I like the look of all of these. Any design suggestions between black and silver? I think I want it to stand out so I'm leaning towards silver on the black casing but a small voice is yelling "subtle is better".

I reckon sluttel is better here, to stand-outish & someone might unscrew it & walk off with it when it's parked up somewhere.

Good point. I'll make sure to pack my oil cap into the cargo area at all times. So one vote for black.

I have one, and I tested it. Water is boiling at 95°C  :whistling:

Here is a photo of mine. It's a bit of bling which I think looks great but also gives an indication of your oil temperature. Really don't care if it's 5% out. Your only going to check it when your stationary anyway otherwise your gonna get yourself in serious trouble😂🤣😂

My gauge is "Moto Metall".  My wife has JMP gauge in her XJR 1300. That JMP was accurate when I boiled it.

Considering I used mine for about two years with a seized fan in temps of up to 38c & never had an issue I can't see them being more than bling either.

I agree with you - I have one on my bike but it makes removing the oil cap easier with arthritis
