Title: No interference
Post by: Mick_J on Wednesday, 03 June 2020, 07:23 PM
I was helping a mate (yes I have one) change tyres yesterday and with the back wheel off in in my bead breaker the tyre was quickly pushed off the bead, however when I picked the wheel up to do the other side the wheel bearing fell out.  Last time I changed a wheel bearing I had to persuade it out with a hammer and a drift so I was a little surprised.  On checking it over there were no skid marks on the outer surface of the bearing or the hub and when inserted back into the wheel I could not detect any play and the bearing is in good nick.  As it's his daily transport I had to get it back on the road so I cleaned up the bearing housing, I painted it with a coat of spray paint and let it dry while I did the front wheel.  Once dry I made up some araldite and heated it up with a hot air gun to get it quite thin and glued the bearing back in.  Put it all back together and tested it for side play, none, it's a god firm fit in the bike.  I've shown him how to check it and told him to check it each day for a week then once a week after that.
Is there something more permanent I could do?  Is there a better way of securing the bearing into the hub?  Any useful advice would be appreciated.

Loctite green, labels gone from mine,as the bottle is 20 odd years old ,  but I think it is called super retaining, or something like that

Loctite as Steve mentioned, and you could also put a few centre punch marks around the contact area, if you can get a punch or similar in there.

I've not looked for a link but you do get bearing fitting liquid .
Locktight do it as do other companies for the very problem your having .
Locktight 641 bearing fit looks like what you need as it does allow bearings to be removed if they are needing to be replaced later .
Some compounds bond the bearing to the metal not allowing removal .
Good luck
