Following from the what else floats your boat thread, I thought I'd make a thread so we could show of our cars / car history.
I'm a bit of a Land Rover Man...
In order...
My First Defender - a 110 tray back from 1992 (200Tdi engine)
Then I bought this as well... 1994 Range Rover Vogue LSE (3.9l V8)
Had air suspension (which worked), all the fruit, but it drank a LOT.
When the (ex) missus needed to drive to work a longer distance the RR was sending us broke so I sold it (worst vehicle regret) and the Defender 110 and bought a Defender 130 dual cab.
(bought her some Citroen thingy too, but who cares, right)
My 1994 Defender 130 300Tdi - later known as "Rolly"
(pictured here at the Fraser Island clean-up)
In due course I found rust and other damage to Rolly, which was beyond my economical capacity / financial reach to repair.
Bought a 1995 Discovery 300Tdi (last of the series 1's)
Didn't keep that too long, wasn't a fan.
Mrs Vlad then said I could get another Defender so...
1995 Defender 130 300Tdi.
and I've still got it ! :boogie:
Edit: tagging
@Bielie45 as you'll be interested in this :) :onya:
The MGs - should never have sold the bue C Roadster
The Beamer
The Sport Trac
Stan
My old Challenger that I loved but it was horrendous on fuel and my 1.9 tdi that has 185 brake and has great MPG tons of torque and Im quite partial to it as well
My 245bhp of silliness Astra VXR :imrgreen:
Vlad...My eldest daughter is into Landies too..This is hers.
This was my last Volvo a 760 V6, a pukka survivor car totally unrestored I bought it off the previous owner who'd had it over 20 years, full service history from new and one very well cared for car. I never really did much to it other than service it, clean it and put alot of petrol in it, I was gutted when I had to scrap it though but the ignition switch shorted out and fried nearly all the wiring putting it way beyond any economical repair.

My favourite one though was the 740 rat car, cost me £330 with 8 months MOT and we had it for about 5 years until it lost it's oil pressure and had to be scrapped :bugga: Never have I had so much fun at so little cost than customising this with whatever I had to hand or could scrounge :)

More t shirts and a couple of haloween masks became seat covers

Tax disc holder was made from cardboard, lolly stick, sellotape and a novelty turd which also summed up my view of road tax ;)

Recently got rid of this lovely old AJ6 Jag, it was immaculate, also the RR P38, also immac, we also had 'his & hers' Smarts, had them both chipped as well!!
The downsized fleet now consists of the motorhome ( we're old ) another Smart for 'er-indoors, & a Passat for me.
a picture of my 65bhp corolla. id be laughed out of town. what a great car, cold a/c, good stereo. my golf clubs fit. even gsx14 bits fit. very limited in my choice of drag races from lights, can eat a beatle, sometimes. i think i rev it more than my bike. love it to death.
Haven't got all photo's of our cars, only in recent yrs....the Alfa Romeo 146Ti and Fiat Punto SE were when we lived in the Isle of Man and the other 2 are of our 2014 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo Tdi 1.6 special edtion and our present car Volvo V40 R Design in Polestar Blue.....2.0 Tdi...

Lawrie i love that Jag.
I much preferred my soft dash LSE to a P38 but each to his own.
We were running two cars I had a Honda civic in electric blue and the misses had a merc 220 sports in grey
But we sold them brought the ford kuga has everything you need for comfort. And I've got my 1400 so all good :onya:
Well here's my last 3 babies
Mitsubishi Evo X FQ330 SST
Audi S3
Audi RSQ3 Competition
So, heres a few photos of cars I have owned in the last 15 or so years :
1. 1989 Volvo 740 turbo.
2. 1985 BMW M535i.
3. 1983 Mercedes AMG SEC 500.
4. 2003 Mercedes E500 Avantgard ..
Currently have Jag XF 3.0 Diesel in the U.K. And Jeep Liberty 3.7 Petrol in the USA
Got three cars...
First is a 2011 Mitsubishi Triton...our main car. Turbo diesel with a five speed auto...fantastic car on and off road.
Second car is a 1982 RA60 Celica I've owned for about 9 years now. Great little car, bought when I had to go away from our old home town to drive training school for driving the coal trains I drive every day. One owner car, genuine little old lady owner, only had 80,000km on it when we bought it. Two liter, five speed manual, factory air con, factory tint. Fitted some Supra alloy wheels and it's got a sweet handling chassis and is fantastic to chuck around on a twisty road.
The last one is a '74 Valiant Charger...I had one back when I was 18 in 1983, and kicked myself every single day since then for selling it a year later. I turned fifty in 2015, and the missus said "Why not buy another one? We're in a position now where we can afford it, and the longer you leave it the more expensive it gets.", so we started looking. Found this one which had a few lazy rust repairs done but lots of rebuilt and new parts...a rebuilt 245 hemi six, new brakes, new tyres, new radiator, etc. Needed a repaint but who cares? I had a Charger again! It's in what turned out to be a rare colour...the eye-searing "Green Go"...which was apparently only available from Chrysler Australia that one year in 1974, and only used on about 400 cars. It's under the house now getting ready for paint to get rid of the sad faded beauty it is now...
The last photo is just a great shot I took when I was visiting my best friend down on the Sunshine Coast...on the way back from her place is a lookout over the Glasshouse Mountains...amazing spot.
HEY CHARGER !!!! Nice car mate. Can't lose that one in a car park eh.
Yep that view looks familiar... http://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=619.0
WOW!
What a fantastic collection of cars you guys have. :onya:

Proud looking Trumpet.
Thanks
thinking of selling it as i really need the room for something else.
Nice Bentley !
Let me guess, not too expensive to buy, but need to be an Arab potentate to afford to run and repair it ?

Quite possibly, I nearly bought a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow a few years back as it was chea and mechanically sound but looked awful - pitted chromework and 2 tone beige and brown with a brown vinyl roof! Didn't bother me as I was going to matt black it anyway! I didn't get it in the end as I bought a Fireblade Streetfighter instead but shortly after a mate bought a Silver Shadow and said he never ever even got 10 to the gallon out of it, he later traded it on some old Ferrari that he said seemed amazingly economical after the Roller!
There's nowt like an economical Ferrari :happy1:
Oooooh, is that a '65 Bonnie?? Very tidy, keep it, just keep it. I sold a '62 pre-unit T120 back in '66, regretted it ever since!!

No not to expensive to buy as it needed some engine and brake work, parts can be quite cheap as most things are rebuildable on this car(repair Kits) not like today's cars, But yes the loans to fill the tank beat me in the end.

It's nice to see though that you've now taken up hair-dressing... :stir:
I like those Nissan 300ZX's - a design that aged really well. The twin turbo versions had some mumbo too.
As to the Bavarian Money Wasters - Why'd you go from a 5-series v8 to a rash of 3's ?
Haha....Matt black and 2 tone Super Minx EBD......... Very smart !! :worshippy:

Yep I tend to change cars often. I just like trying all different types.....hence having a V8 then trying out a 1.3 wankel engine.
And as for the hairdresser comment....how rude :imrgreen: Although it's not just a TT, it's slightly more manlier being a TTS. By the time I've finished with it it should be well over 300bhp and what with the Quattro should make for a fun ride!
Gaz
It's a TT, still a girls car :whistling:

I think euro cars here are a shitload more expensive than for you. How about a few price comparisons?
Aussie $:
2007 Aston Martin DB9 Volante Auto $133,000 = GBP 80,568
2009 Audi TTS Quattro $42,000 = GBP 25.442
2006 BMW 330i $15,000 = GBP 9,087
and for fun, a NEW car... 2017 Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 Auto AWD MY17 $574,990 = GBP 348,257
What would you pay for those in the UK?

What would you pay for those in the UK?
I'm happy for anyone to supply prices. Im interested to see the comparative prices for those in the UK - just as a relative guide. I know most of us (and certainly me) can't afford those expensive jobbies....
Thanks for posting your pics Stoli. You've just about had more cars than I've had hot breakfasts!
Most of yours aren't to my taste, but some are.
But really? A Celica? Now THAT is the ultimate hairdressers car. That and the MX-5. :stir:

Vlad......maybe we are happy with our cans of hairspray rolling around in the boot of our cars
As a comparison for you. 2009 TTS here in UK would be about 14k so a lot cheaper than what you guys would pay.

REALLY! Look up GT4 st205
Homologation cars for group b rally... and they were banned !!
Serious quick
I am talking about the common or garden variety.
I very much doubt we got any higher spec celicas here - in Aus they seriously had a reputation as a hairdressers car. And when they stopped selling Celicas... the MX5 copped that dubious honour.
I personally hate the styling of that model Celica. But hey, that's just me.
The original MX-5's were cracking little cars but then they got bigger, and heavier......
This should give you a giggle. Be interested in your comments
Hope its clear enough to read.
Just had a look at rates. NZ$1 = just under 55p
Yikes look at those prices!!
These are in Canadian Dollars

My last Motor had it 10 years :)
My current motor had it 2 years now :)
We are on our 4th Ford Territory.
We like them, 4 ltr, straight 6, rear wheel drive.
This was our 3rd one.
It only lasted 1 week. (Normally we get more than a week out of them!)

Every petrol head should have an Alfa at some time. This was ours. Gone but not forgotten and it was reliable too!
My current ride. Could never love a cage like a bike but if you gotta have one then you may as well have the best and for me, I know its just an opinion, this GS300 is. Most vehicles that start GS seem to turn out good.
(pic is not actually of mine but it is identical)
WE have had this Suzuki, curiously with 4 wheels, for just over 5 years from new. Mostly the good lady's car but I do like to drive it occasionally. 46000 miles and never missed a beat. Will break the front bumper though if you use it to kill a badger, as she found out.
I'd guess we have 10 to 15,000 cars at work, maybe more. We handle a large % of the cars coming into Australia. Transport, storeage, compliance plating, adding stereo's / side steps / ute roll bars / handbooks / badges pre-dealers, distribution to dealers around Australia. Everything from Kia, VW, Toyota, Hyundai, Haval, Isuzu trucks, Misubishi, up to Porsche and Audi etc etc, including stuff like the GT3-RS and R8's. Not unusual to drive 50+ brand new cars in a day, maybe up to 200 when we are moving or tidying up the yards.
Not my car but my sons.
Citroen AX with a turbo charged B16 Honda engine fitted in the front putting out over 300hp and the same in the rear. Puts a new meaning to shed built
My retirement present - 4x4 180bhp diesel auto ....put on all season tyres ( £150 each !! ) ready for winter when i bought it - had it 3 years and not seen a single snowflake and now on my second set of all season tyres :bugga:

Agreed! - I had a Sud many moons ago - what fun to drive! Unfortunately I was 'T' bone in an intersection writing the car off - Father got sixty stitched in his face and I ended up with two broken ribs - We were lucky that was all.

A few years ago we purchased our only ever new car.
Mazda 3 Touring spec.
Technology - great, and it all works.
Comfort - very good,
Performance - for a 2.0l - impressive.
It's great.
Oh and the colour in these photos doesn't do the red justice its actually more red / vibrant than shown.

4.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel V8 producing 320kW (430hp?) and 900Nm (660ftlb) of torque, the thing has a 48volt power pack to run its active suspension and, more entertaining, a fierce electric compressor that can boost the turbo's in a fraction of a second if you boot it, instant boost! Sounds and go's pretty good for a family wagon.
Shame it's close to $160,000. Nicer wheels are an extra $6000.
I didn't ask about the carbon / ceramic brake upgrade or some of the other extras!
Edit:
Fark!!!
Quote:
"Keen owners wishing to 'track' their seven-seater might also choose to add a ceramic brake package asking for a $19,500 premium.
There's also a huge choice of other cost options ranging from LED Matrix headlights ($2200) to a full-leather interior package ($14,500), and from power assisted door closure ($1550) to a 23-speaker expanded Bang & Olufsen sound system ($11,340)"

Dear Father Xmas...... :coffeescreen:
Autoexpress had an SQ7 on their fleet - it had £24,000 of optional extras !!! :bugga:
We finally found a Saturday morning posing car last year on carsales, a beautiful 2006 MX5 auto and retractable hard top. We had to go to Melbourne from Tasmania to pick it up, so we did a Great Ocean Road drive while we were on the mainland.
This is one magic car to drive and I have always wanted an open top sports car all my life, I can afford one now, so got it before my my lights go out
That MX5 is a very fine car. I wish you much enjoyment with it.
I don't have a Car licence so that explains this.
We have several Fiat 124 Spider Abarth's at work.
Although sold as a Fiat they are built by Mazda in Hiroshima and its basically an MX5 with a few tweaks and changes.
Had a few drives in the new / latest model / alloy engined / 5 cylinder / Audi TT-RS. Very different to the previous model.
Great little car. Rides a bit firm but its like a rocket propelled Go-Cart!
I read you'd need to spend a quarter of a million $ to get a Porsche to match it.
Not sure I could live with one, or ever afford one!
.... but it was fun to try it and it has a wonderful addictive "growl" on the throttle.
Its like a baby R8.
I was quite impressed.
:onya:
Fella turned up at home today in a 2014 Maserati Tourismo. Quite rare he said, it has a 4.2 litre Ferrari engine in it.
Nice car.......sounded pretty good as he gave it a bootfull when he left.
Ferrari mentioned, my legs shake. just love them. you should hear my corolla take off, takes a while, 2/3 of the power of my bike. :rofl3:
Due a new car soon.
My old Lancer is getting pretty tired, and after 4 Territory's its time for a change.
Going to try a few but a base model Hi-Lux Workmate and a 2WD Rav-4 (more for the wife than me) are options. Budget cars saves me bike money!
You could put a bike on the back of the hilux, not so the RAV-4. Decision made then ?!

I havent tried the R. We have the GT at work.
The police had their eye on them (GT's) as highway patrol cars, the story going around is they were told "No!" as government cars aren't allowed to have such a poor safety rating.
I sort of understand why some folk might like them, now there's no home market V8's. why anyone buys the 4 cylinder 2.3ltr version is a mystery to me though.
the 4 cylinder and bad safety rating puzzles me. todays a direct import, prob. no aust. safety rating. bloody quick.
Those Mustangs are becoming popular here. They look pretty sharp.
As my good lady hated the sh1t out of my golf (185bhp TDI) and my daughter blew her Polo up I decided to give her the Golf which left me motorless - I decided I was a terrific Dad and deserved a present
so I bought me this - a 2004 E320 Avantgarde - full service history - been chipped to 280bhp - its like a 4 wheel GSX1400 - very comfy with loads of grunt
Anything that can be likened to a 14 got to be great :boogie:

We have the new Kia at work today.
3.3ltr twin turbo V6 rear wheel drive.
272kw / 369hp.
Did ya get a wee go in it Tony? Looking at the specs on those, they'll put all but the higher output Holdens & Falcons to shame.

Not my car but my sons.
Citroen AX with a turbo charged B16 Honda engine fitted in the front putting out over 300hp and the same in the rear. Puts a new meaning to shed built
...I've allways wondered how in hell do you sync those engines in those two engine mods...?
how is it done?
Quote from: grog on Friday, 01 September 2017, 07:35 PM
how is it done?
The only one I've seen done wasn't that perfectly sync'd.
It ran two bike engines, linked throttles and clutches etc.
It had 2 gear shifts coming up out of the floor like a car but side by side,
at the top the left one bent left, the right one bent right,
this gave two separate gear levers that you used together as a T-type shifter.
The car had two rev counters so if one bike motor shifted or one didn't the rev counters showed this, it wasn't a huge drama both engines carried each other just at different rev's. The T-shift let you change either motor back up or down to put them back together.
Running in perfect harmony would be nice but I don't see it as essential.
We have bolted earthmoving scrapers together and one pushes, one pulls, they work as a pair but may not be identical in performance.
Modern cars have some very good sports-auto gear box's and would probably make a double engine build a lots easier.
Hi he installed a splitter for the clutch see photo and linked the throttle cables. One gear shifter then fabricated and extended the gear linkage both engines go into the same gear at the same time. Crazy thing is he works in a call centre and has had no previous mechanical experience. The car with only one engine ran sub 13 second quarter miles at the local drag strip. Haven't ran it with twin engines as both need a remap.
I was driving an Audi "RS6 Performance" today.
Nice estate car / wagon.
Go's OK, you'd expect it to with 600hp.
Shame I can't quite stretch to the $247,000 price tag for the
base model before you start ticking the options list.
The fastest car I have owned was a Mercedes CLK63 AMG
Only 25 of them here in the UK
Must be fast if its kept in a cage on a lead.
:whistling:
How fast did you ever get it up to Speedy? (on a closed track - naturally, nothing to do with roads)

A "friend" allegedly went to 150mph then chickened out.. (Mercedes say 185mph for these)
I was "told" it got there very very easily...
I was also "told" that it hit 120mph by the time it joined a motorway from a slip road..
It was by far the quickest car I have owned.
Sounds very impressive power / speed. She'd have been a very thirsty girl when pressing on I'd imagine.

There's some nice and some very stand out colours!
Mostly GT's but a few S and SI models, all 3.3 twin turbo's.

My old shogun
The misses car
No car, just the 14, 2 bicycles, 2 feet. Great public transport here. Haven't had many cars but liked the VW GTI (1st model 1981) a great deal.
If I need a car ride, my neighbors are more than happy to give me a lift in one of their big Mercedes. Or my friend and landlord lets me have his ML 320 (with LPG).
The missus' car...
The like is for the missus :)
That's a very tidy Moke Owen, bloody cracker.
Two special cars that I owned in the past..
The first is a Mercedes SL500 (1 previous owner) which I wish I had kept..
1st Photo (Noooo Thats not my house.. Its a local time share / restaurant that I used as a backdrop)
The second was a rare (24 in the UK) Mercedes CLK63 AMG which was quite simply the fastest car I have ever owned..
It was a brute of an engine..
"I am told" that from the beginning of a motorway slip road to actually joining the motorway it would hit 120 M P H !!
2nd Photo
3rd Photo shows the Beast of an engine... 6.2 litres of naturally aspirated V8

Hi Col
Never been married..
Cars were a luxury I could afford when I lived at Home..
Mum died and I had to grow up bloody fast so the cars went and I run a lowly Ford Fiesta now and my bike.. (Even the Saab has gone)..
Once in the CLK63 I made the mistake of asking it to display the fuel consumption when I was on my way to work and in rush hour traffic....
6.3MPG !!!!!
Never married? Ah well, guess I've made up for both of us then, (and some!) :rofl2: Slow learner me . . . :whistling:
I have had numerous cars and bikes, two new cars in the last year, several new cars before that, and currently have 5 complete bikes and 3 project bikes. Most of what I have is because of my wife! I'd probably be living in a cardboard box under a bridge somewhere and not looking for another bike if I wasn't with her.
Sounds like you have a good one there Tony.
When the other half is supportive its brilliant..
when they aren't . . . . .
Well Tony, you got the jack pot :onya: That's rare but possible.
Have always had work cars at hand. Good for me. I drive old Corolla, wife has 3.5l v6 Mitsi. Both good. Worth nothing. New Ranger is latest workshop ute. Very nice, long wrty.
Great thinking Grog. Because l have fixed accident damaged vehicles all my life, l subscribe to the worth nothing brand of vehicle.
Fixed a late model Toyota van for us to keep.1st day l had it on the road some dozey cow opens her door onto it. Didnt keep it long. Now happily back driving my old 'worth nothing' van. :onya:
I only took this off the road 6 months ago because I was going oversea's. 89 V6, still drives like new.
My photos are all failing "security checks" anyone any idea why? I tried uploading 5, failed, tried 1, failed (176 kb)??
my 1978 911 sc. Bought black, full nut and bolt strip, wife stripped all the paint off. Mate sprayed it red. Daily driver for 14 years.
Escort mk 2 RS 2000. Daily driver when I stopped using the 911.
1966 Triumph Spitfire. Saw the ad at the NEC classic car show. Told the wife it would be on the road in 3 months. 14 years later....
P38 Range Rover. Loved and hated this car. Got stung buying it, head knackered. Put a new one on then fine, most comfortable car I have ever had. Ran it on biofuel and it ate a fuel pump a month, but, I had access to free used chip oil so made my own biofuel with ethanol.
Cut a hole in the floor to access fuel pump without removing fuel tank so I could change the pump in 15 mins and always carried a spare.
Some nice cars there lil. Love the RS2000.
still on your learners i see Kiwi, rs200. :rofl2: yes, id love to own rs2000. once did a rally, colin bond had one as factory ford entrant. our team checked fluids, tyres etc. at half way. his team changed motor, gearbox , diff and fr. n rear suspension. no, they didnt win, a 260z nissan did. ross dunkerton. he got a local garage owner out of bed, he needed a welder to fix something. around midnight, he did the welding.
Fixed it Grog. Good old Escort days.
Hayden Paddon won the 2015 Rally of Otago in a MK2 Escort a couple of years ago. He was in the Classics Class but won it overall.
Amazing in-car footage on Utube.
We got this month in black and what a lovely car. In the auto gt line petrol drive very smooth and all round a great car
The missus's and mine...
Mercs?
Merc's?? Not my thing even if I could afford them :happy1: No... Opel Cascada and VWTiguan
Ah OK.
We have Tiguans here in Oz but I don't pay much attention to them , and I have no idea what an Opel Cascada is.
The Discovery2 is my daily drive.
The Perentie is a 100% ex Military general service vehicle and thats my weapon in the bush
A man of taste and distinction. You on AULRO?
I saw a RR Velar today - thought I'd like it with its flush door handles etc - then I saw it from the back! Yuk !!!
Gees what a small world! I was just reading up on tyres for my cruiser and ended up on a Land Rover forum. There is this guy called "Vlad" on there and he owns a 1400. So I thought "Hey! I know a Landy nut who has a 1400!" and here you are talking about it.

Really nice statesman. Price will never go down. My mates car, not mine. Wasnt going to post but am. 2011 Landcruiser. Cost 90g new then spent 30 on it. Full suspension upgrade, slotted rotors and calipers, brembo. Huge exhaust. 4.7 litre v8 twin turbo v8. Bigger inlet manifold. Adjustable piggy back computer , can adjust from drivers seat. At 5 psi puts out 250 bhp at each wheel. Can run up to 25. At high boost it lifts lh front wheel. Most amazing ive driven. Now just on 200 th ks without a problem. No turbo lag, just drives perfect. @Tony Nitrous cars of that era are starting to go up in price as more traditional desirable cars (the HG era Monaros etc) are unaffordable for most.
I'm more of an XB/XC Ford guy and have always wanted another ute (had an XB back in the day) but even a very average one needing a lot of work is usually in the teens. A well sorted one ready to roll $20k+, a really good one $30K+

I wondered if the Morrie was an 850 or 1000.
Well early next year I'll be looking to replace the Mazda3. The front runner at the moment is... a Mazda 3 :)
Vlad, had you considered more of a classic ??
Just the ticket Vlad! I have it for sale
Current one 2009 2.7V6 Santa Fé with LPG and just hit 90,000 miles.
Previous 2.7V6 Santa Fé with LPG, sold with 130,000 miles on at 5 years old.
Previous to that 2.7V6 Santa Fé with LPG, sold with 140,000 miles on at 4 years old.
Previous to that 2.4 4 cyl Santa Fé with LPG, sold with 143,000 miles on at 4 years old.
I like Santa Fés, pity I cant get a RHD Santa Fé sport 2.0T 270Hp, but the Aussies keep 'em all!!
First three were used as my company car, but retired nearly 3 years ago so only do 11000 a year now in the car and about another 4000 on the 14, GT750 and GT550. Not sure how many air miles a year, but it's a (very) lot!
I used to have a Lightweight coiler LandRover with a nice 4.6V8 in with 275Hp, that was quick and upset lots of the local GTi fraternity.
@Kiwifruit no thanks.
@Globalrider I'm actually after a new one or there wouldn't be any point.
@Alan H what on earth is so good about Santa Fe's ?
Something more sporty perhaps ??
Not mine, but spotted it at the local garage the other day, it's Packard Super 8 - 160 from around 1941.
Bit rough round the edges, but road legal by all accounts - it's got a current rego etc
(https://gsx1400owners.org/forum/gallery/0/5-121218150205.jpeg)
Don't think I'd want to travel very far or fast on those tyres though

I like it Col. Nice patina look & suicide doors. Just stick a nicer set of rims & tyres on & away you go.
The guy filled it with 95 too. Wouldn't of thought they even had 95 back then?
Looks like the beginnings of a Steam Punk project......kind cool. I like original.
Col, love that Packard. Straight 8, amazing motors. I wont comment on cars, i have to deal with the bloody things all day, everyday. Maybe why i like to talk bikes after work. Of course a hot run motor, taxis etc, will run a lot further.example, old Ford Falcon taxis, usually around 700 th ks before head off, same car in private use, usually around 100th ks. Of course there are exceptions but this is usually the difference.

Welllll, they're inexpensive, reliable, 'dipsticks' don't want to steal them and they're safe. Comfortable and decent to drive, they tow a caravan/boat very well ( I tow both occasionally). And smaller cars tend not to tailgate a big vehicle with a towbar on.
I got rear ended last year - well, the car did - and the Volvo truck illegally in the outside lane of the M1 that knocked the Audi into me caused little damage to mine, but wrote the A3 off front and back.
A nice decent size V6 petrol engine means very few want to buy them, so they are quite cheap compared to a tractor engine variant, and with LPG fitted (about £1400 last time) filling up at 55p/litre means they do about 40-60mpg as a £ equivalent compared to the tractors 35ish. I used to do 40000+ miles a year when I was working, but only about 11-12000 now, but still worthwhile. I will keep the current one about 5 years before it gets swapped. I think it'll be the next size down next time unless I can get a RHD Sport.
Try one, you might just be impressed.
I drive hundreds of Santa Fe's. We have several thousand Hyundai here at the moment.
Have you also looked at / tried the Kia Sportage and Sorento models ?
I was in the same market but I went for the Toyota Rav-4 as I got a very generous trade discount and the local Toyota dealer is at the end of my street for servicing etc.
Driving the Toyota and a great many Kia's back to back each day the Koreans really have upped their game. Both Kia and Hyundai.
I'm your in a Hyundai/Kia dealership get a go in a 3.3 Stinger or i30N. I wouldn't buy either as they don't suit me, but it's hard not to be impressed.
The Stinger looks very nice Tony. Did a double take the first time l saw one
My mate has one as his company car and i have had a drive of it. They go really well & are a nice car all round.
A bit of a thread drift off our own cars,
but crank the volume up and have a listen to this !!!
Great clip, thanks for sharing
Santa Fe usually very good. this petrol one wasnt, 70th ks, harmonic balancer failed. $850 for part, a pig to remove, $220 labour. only one ive seen, bad day at harmonic balancer factory.
Thanks. I hadn't considered the lower model Stingers, because I was so taken with the $60K fast one that I can't afford!
Good to know they are worth a look.
So sad. -14°C this morning. I think the riding season is over. 16 000 km with my 14 this year.
Well it took three years to get this car inspected (California car) and drive-able - next job registration and adjust the carbs and auto gearbox linkage, but at least it drives! Then new paint and interior - already have all the new chrome but the I'm liking the present patina!!!

I drove this one a couple of times, did the check over on it, did a few little things and compliance plated it for AU before it went off to be kitted up.
All the cop ones I've done have been 3.3 twin turbo's and the middle of the 3 different specs. No 2ltr ones at all.

The missus' Cruze - RS with Turbo - Nice little runabout!
One picture of my last Ford Capri Injection Special, sold nearly five years ago now. Had them for thirty years in one form or another. This one only had one owner before me and only 52000 miles on the clock when I sold her. Lack of use was the reason for sale, that and no room in the garage due to motorbikes. I await the jokes and piss-taking now. I guarantee I will have heard every amusing comment! I loved them, not particularly fast but very interesting, at times, to drive

Nice cars the 2.8i Capri's but personally I preferred the 3.0S as an engine, seemed to pull better lower down, whereas the 2.8 always seemed a little bit more revvy to get going. Either one though still iconic.
I agree! I had several Capris with the both the 3 litre and the 2.8. The 3.0 was punchier and the 2.8 liked to rev a bit harder. A great car in its day and my inspiration to make the leap to American muscle

I only had one of the 3.0 versions but I have to say it was probably my favourite, not as quick as the 2.8i but the noise was much better. We used to go to shows all over the country and American muscle cars blew me away. Could never afford one but the V8 noise can't be beaten :notworthy:

Milts & Simonic :onya: love them.
I like any early American muscle car.
@Milts I love the older Corvettes. The 60-760's era esp the Stingrays, probably my favourite, with the late 50s 'Vettes a close second.
A 1963 split-window is a 'grail' car I think.
The post 70's stuff I have found very uninteresting.
@Simonic lovely Dodge ! Nothing quite like a BIG V8 to get the boogie on !

Hard to believe, we service this blokes cars at my work. Two Porsche and Mercedes. Lowest power is Merc, just over 700 bhp. Wifes car. Wheels on one Porsche, $20 G each.
Picking this Arden Blue VXR up tomorrow.
Same year etc as my red one, but 30,000 less miles and far better condition. My son "OJ" is havinng the red one and he can't wait for me to sign it over to him tonight :imrgreen:
This is my car, its my third one a 530d been re-chipped to give 45 more bhp, I also get 20% more fuel efficiency. Was 40mpg now 50mpg
We are now a two VXR family :imrgreen:
My son OJ polished and cleaned the hell out of my old red one and it looks lovely now. I fitted a Crossover Delete and big Pipercross cone filter to mine yesterday and it sounds amazing.
I have one of these but one of my neighbours has one of these.
MJGT, my boss has a Merc like that, nice car. Also last weekend saw a 570 parked in town. First McLaren ive seen on road. Not common here.
We have Toyota Tundra's on the wharf at work.
I want a Toyota Tundra.
I have a old swedish longroof :clapping:
I also have an older Swedish longroof, a bit higher only
Today had to do a Safety Certificate on a 2018 Holden Clubsport. MOT up north. Not a bad car for a 4 door upgraded family sedan. Supercharged 6.2 litre V8. 430kw/576 bhp. Very nice to drive, superb brakes. Very compliant over bumps for a sporty car.

Our Mazda3 was coming to the end of it's lease and we decided after a lot of agonizing to replace it with what will likely be our last chance at a new car.
The Mazda 3 has got nicer and more expensive with the new generation model released this year, but after a LOT of research that's what we decided upon.
A Mazda 3 GT25 Astina in Sould Red Crystal Metallic :)

If you were to look online you'd find the Astina sedan has only two trim colour options.
All black (way too dark) or black and WHITE. A very bright white on dash and seats. So white it would get dirty just from being looked at.
We wanted something that looked more 'premium' (given that it's not a cheap car) and managed to get the dealer to work with an after-market car upholsterer to retrim parts in tan leather.
To say we are stoked with the results is an understatement we reckon it looks amazing, prestige look with red stitching tying it into the outside paint colour.

Nice car mate, now totally unique. They dont do much wrong in the real world. Looks good.

Me too mate. It's on Gumtree & Carsales. I thought I had it sold last Sunday but his wifes OT had organised a wheelchair that needed a ramp van.
Snapey, i also thought a wanted type of car. Not by me now, let me out of moonboot today, cant ride until get all clear next week, wear boots. Im allowed to drive car, have me in a post op sandal. Yes, im happy.
My latest four wheels Mercedes GLC, picture doesn't really do it justice
Bought it new in July this year and absolutely love this car, will never be the fastest off the line (but hell I have the bike for that) loaded with toys, comfortable and surprisingly reasonably economical apart from the astronomical road tax
Just noticed the Navara workhorse in the background also, great workhorse
Cheers
Pete...
Good taste in cars Pete I bought my coupe this year to replace the E class estate. Loving it so far
Road tax and 20inch alloys pricy but what the hell you can't take it with you

We still have takes that were put in place to protect the local car manufacturing industry.
We no longer have any local car manufacturing industry at all, and yet the taxes are largely still in place.
Funny that... :jack:
