Hi all,
How accurute are the markings on your 14?
I am currently setting my valve lash and noticed that when the camshafts are perfectly aligned with the edge of the head... the "T" mark within the ignition cover is not perfectly aligned with the casting.
- Can you please post some picture of your T position when you are in the area ?
Preferably both situations:
Cams aligned- showing the T,
T aligned showing the cams.
Just for my ease of mind. Mine are not exactly like in the Suzuki manual.
I've not been in there yet, so no experience with the 14,but it could be a sign that it's time for a new cam chain.
I've not been that far in the motor yet .
Had the cams fitted as was cheaper than DIY
Best best would be
@Hooli as he checks the shims more regularly than most due to the miles he does.
Good luck buddy.
😎
Cam chain not 1 tooth out is it?
Marks on sprockets are not exactly accurate, but they are accurate enough. can't be "one tooth out".
If you need/want more accuracy, you will need adjustable cam sprockets and dial indecators.
Thanks for the replies.
Tagging Hooli crossed my mind too ;)
@Hooli ... you are wanted at the service desk please. :mwink:
When setting/checking the valve lash... are your timing marks spot on?
Both the cam markings aligns perfectly with the surface... the ignition T is slightly off.
With the T aligned , the markings on the cams dips. I can still read the 1 on the exhaust cam.
@Blubber Done the ignition advancer mod by enlarging the holes in the plate? That would explain the markings being off.
Good Call Andre.

If only it was that simple.
Nope. Still original backplate.
Again .. it is not much.
The fact that my head is skimmed doesnt help the precision also
Ayup, you called???
I've only ever had the ignition cover off once, so no idea if it lines up right.
If the heads been skimmed its unlikely the marks will line up.
mjgt, agree.

Agreed. Without vernier pulleys to be able to allow for the slightly shorter chain run, you're likely to be unable to time it exactly.
Those were my thoughts too. ( only i wasnt going to put those words in your mouths ) i have also deliberatly not posted any pic to prevent the members from here thinking it is a stock situation.
At a guess it is off my 1/4 of a tooth.
It doesnt hit anything nor do i have a fear it will eventually.

Thank you
