Title: ANZAC Day 2020
Post by: VladTepes on Tuesday, 21 April 2020, 11:45 AM
ANZAC Day 2020

COVID-19 has changed our lives – at least in the medium term – in many ways. Certainly ANZAC Day this year will be different to any we have seen before.

Most services have been cancelled (for obvious crowd reasons) and those few that will occur will not have members of the public present. These will be broadcast on ABC TV and on various facebook and internet sites.

People are also planning their own tributes, with musicians encouraged to play The Last Post from their driveways. Adversity breeds creativity.

Don't forget that a minute of silence and reflection is as valuable at home as at a service (and in fact as valuable on any day of the year). Remember the sacrifice of those who fought and didn't return, and the sacrifices of those who returned scarred physically and mentally.

It's said they fought for their country, and that's true in a literal sense; but most of all soldiers in combat fight for each other. For their mates.

And that's a lesson as valuable now as ever, look after your mates.

Here's an ABC article with some more specific information https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-11/anzac-day-around-australia-during-coronavirus-restrictions/12136690

Lest We Forget.

Thanks for the reminder Vlad  I must go and buy a heap of candles to put on the driveway Saturday. TV will be showing a recorded ANZAC service from 5:30am and then people go to their driveway at 6am. LEST WE FORGET

Absolutely nothing about ANZAC Day yet from our CEO (Gov't Agency) or anyone else in the organisation.
Not on our intranet, or by email, or anything.

If this was some "other" day we'd have had weeks of lead in rubbish thrown at us. You know the days I mean - alphabet days, harmony, earth hour day, or pretty much anything else beloved of the PC brigade... .

Pricks.   :furious:

The ONLY mention of ANZAC Day is one I wrote in the "All Company" page on our internal social network thing. See if it prompts anything official.

@GSXKING went to the supermarket at lunchtime - no large candles to be had !

From someone at work -

QuoteABC radio is broadcasting.

Another option is a livestream.  A friends 17yo grandson is livestreaming from 5.55am from his dad's FB page 'Poppies and Barbed Wire'.  He has a bugle from WW1 and plans to recite the Ode and sound the Last Post.  After a minutes silence he will sound Reveille.  ABC will be there to film.
