Hello everyone.
My 2007 runs perfect then once in a blue moon it starts to cut out electrically. The needles in the clocks ping up and down as if the ignition is being switched off and on. Initial fault finding led us to think a battery post had broken inside the casing so we tried a new battery. No probs for a few hundred miles then it came back again. All servicing has been done and checked but someone thought it could be a bad connection on the main fuse . Where is the main fuse ? Will try that next as it's the cheapest option. Thanks.
Here ya go, have a read here . . .

It may be worth checking the wiring loom where it comes out of the headlight bowl & along the frame, I can remember my mate having a similar problem and the loom had been rubbing on the frame by the head stock, the dealer he bought the bike from originally repaired foc for him
Cheers
Pete...
Hi, I had a Aprilia RSV1000R previously to the 14 which would cut out very occasionally with the ignition dying and it took me ages to find the fault. I always thought it was a grounding issue so cleaned and checked all the connections but couldn't see any problem when testing it. Once it cooled down it would always restart and run fine until the next time it cut out. Then whilst just running the bike up in the garage for a little while over winter it cut out and I had my multi tester to hand. I found the ground from the battery to the engine and frame had gone high resistance. As the bike cooled down the resistance in the ground went from high resistance back down to zero ohms and stayed there. I therefore replaced the ground strap from the battery to the engine and it never happened again. I found hair line fractures in the cable was the cause of all my woes and the bike never missed a beat after that. Just thought your problem could also easily be a simple grounding issue, perhaps even lose or corroded connections?
Big Phil, agree. I was about to post check earth wire. I put extra one from battery on mine.
I had a similar issue recently, I like most people here suspected a dodgy earth.
It turned out to be the other end of the circuit, dirty filthy contacts in the ignition switch stopping the power getting far enough. It's easy enough to clean out, pop the top yoke off, drill out the two headless screws & the switch falls out. I just wiped it clean, smeared it with silicon electrical grease & put it back. Oh I also wiped clean & regreased the steering lock as you as access it once the switch is out.
It only goes back one way, so you can't get it wrong. I've no idea what the contacts in mine got coated in, but it looked & felt like the sludge in the bottom of a pond filter when I wiped it off.
Thanks everyone. Every time the bike dies I would struggle to get a restart until I lifted the seat and put pressure on the black earth wire. This led us to suspect the battery post itself originally but it could well be the earth wire as you suggest. Will change this next cheers.
quick update on my cutting out problems. Fitted an extra earth off the battery to the frame 2 months ago. No hassle at all now. Been using the bike for daily commute and it's been perfect. Cheers everyone. Cost of repair in the end 12 quid.
