Title: Exhaust Question
Post by: Rh4000 on Friday, 10 April 2020, 09:41 AM
Excuse my idiocy here gents. Got some new link pipes and exhausts as I wanted a change. I have delkevic downpipes and collector box.

My question is for the two link pipe gasket, do the sit them on the collector box then you slide the link pipes over or do you have the gaskets in the link pipes and slide them onto the collector box then? As ye know their fragile and I don't want to mince them as their easily wrecked.

Thanks in advance.

TBH I don't see that it matters really, however when I did mine, I put them in the collector & slid the pipes in.  This way the gaskets are fully inserted no matter how much pipe you get in there.

With new gaskets, I always started with the gaskets on the collector and slid the cans over them. I also always applied a very thin smear of Copaslip to both faces (when new) when the gaskets were new to aid assembly.

Over time the gaskets will choose whether they stick inside the can or to the collector (it will be one or the other).

Just one thing - before you fit collector. Take off side plate retaining bolts and apply a little thread lock - you can ask me why if you like... :whistling:
