Title: Bitcoin
Post by: Snapey on Saturday, 04 April 2020, 11:12 PM
I'm interested to see if anyone knows anything about or has joined Bitcoin. Scam or legit?

Just for the hell of it I invested the minimum 250 Euro in Bitcoin after seeing ads about all the money being made. No great loss if I lose it but watching the highs and lows of my investment might be interesting. Last week I got a 30 minute phone call from a guy in Italy asking all sorts of personal questions and to explain what it's all about. It mostly went over my head so to help me understand the whole thing I got another 30 minute call the next night to go through it on the computer.

First thing because I'm useless on a computer was to download www.anydesk.com which would allow him access to my computer ... that ain't gunna happen. It appears that this man is my adviser and as such takes 5% of any profit made but my 250 Euro is small change and I really should invest many thousands more. That ain't gunna happen either.

Maybe it's a good thing but it also sounds too good to be true.

There are lots of things I know nothing about and bitcoin is one of them. If you look at Martin Lewis on the internet which I have just done, he is a UK money boffin, that may help. One of the things he does say is that if you don't understand something don't invest in it.
Another old adage is that if it sounds to good to be true then it probably is - but I'm sure you've heard that. Martin Lewis also says that there are a lot of scams connected to Bitcoin and it sounds to me that somebody who wants to take control of your computer could be standing under this umbrella.

Hope someone on hear can give you some worthwhile advice  :computer_type:

WARNING - ANYDESK is a preferred tool used by SCAMMERS. AVOID at all costs this 'deal'

Bitcoin itself is legit BUT is is a preferred currency used by scammers.
A mate at work did HEAPS of research and invested in it legitimately to see how it all worked. Ended up losing about $2K

Again mate this is a scam, please avoid.

My Italian "advisor" is ringing me tomorrow night so I'm interested to hear his reaction when I tell him they'll be no more money.  :thumbs_down:

And if he is honest he will say the same thing.

@Snapey

Just to update this thread. If you had bought one Bitcoin last October it would have cost you £8,696. It would now be worth £41,957!

At present I hold 0.00041311 of one Bitcoin in my Portfolio of Cryptocurrency :rofl2: Your E250 worth must have grown by a huge amount if you still hold it.

It's a very volatile market to trade in!

There must be good brokers around but my broker, Grandefex is a scam. They pester you for more money with the bait being "look at how much profit you're making". I made a huge profit on paper but wanted to test them so I said no more funds until I see that profit in my bank account.

Guess what. Within 3 or 4 days my account was empty with the excuse being the volatility of the market & we made some bad investments. It was fun while it lasted & I only dropped a grand but there are people who've invested hundreds of thousands with the same result.

@Snapey

It sounds as if they were out to scam you from the onset. Not nice at all, but they are out there.
I use Coinbase. You buy and sell what you want and can trade as little or as much as you want. They get top reviews as well. I'm not expecting to make a fortune to be honest.I'm never that lucky. At the moment I have put £120 in the pot and invested in 10 different cryptocurrencies. I'll bide my time and see what happens. Tuesday would have been a good day to buy as the Chinese made it illegal to trade in crypto and as a result the market plumetted like a stone..It's already bounced back to higher prices of stock than before.

To Quote Monty Python. If you start with nothing and then you finish with nothing, What have you lost ? NOTHING.

Sounds like they knew about Bitcoin long ago LOL  :lol:

Anydesk itself seems a legit tool, as the teamviewer app; just for remote desktop access. I´ve used these tools with my mom which lives in another country and she knows nothing about computers. The problem is "letting in" someone you´ve never heard of or seen in your life and wants to snoop around your digital life, and with bitcoin involved !?! Tell him to stuff it !

@Jeykey
Funnily enough I've just used Team Viewer for the first time to help my brother out with his first ever laptop. I only dropped it in to him yesterday. He's bipolar and struggles with things at times. I live an hour away from  him, so it makes it so easy to help him out.
As for letting unknown people take control of my PC...Not a chance!
