Mate bought a $800 Alpine Star leather jacket. Wanted good quality and shop told him these were highly rated. 3rd time wearing the zip puller on one sleeve broke. Other side looks not far behind. We had a close look, metal about as thick as a needle. Shop will replace jacket, will be exactly same. No good. No refund available. Reckon id be annoyed.
I'd be fuming, esp if recommended like that.
Complete bummer! Seeing this sort of stuff happening more and more often. You buy a premium product on the assumption that the price is usually reflective of the quality... but...and this is a big but... I would guess more than 90% of premium manufacturers are sourcing the materials they use in their products from low cost countries to maintain margins. Alpinestars do make great stuff even tho it's expensive... but I'm am sure they buy the zip from China or somewhere other than Italy!
The requirement behind the use of a 'made in xxxx (insert country here)' is probably very lax... I'm sure there is accurate info out there but I reckon probably 70% of a product must be made in country xxxx to allow that manufacturer to say 'made in xxx'. I think it would be far more descriptive to state 'assembled in xxx'
I'm rambling now.... 😝🥴
No refund, WTF!!! On the basis that the jacket is `not fit for purpose`, a full refund, voucher to the value of, or an alternative jacket should surely be the outcome provided he has the receipt.
Always thought Alpine Star gear to be overpriced - didn`t realise it was crap too!
refund or sit outside the shop with a placard and tell the world..oh, and cough a lot :)

I used a nice hot soldering iron, about 80 watts or so and soldered ALL the zips on my jacket, I had a puller come off but it just fell on the ground so I didn't lose it, after closer inspection I could tell this would have been a problem for all the zips, no worries now, shouldn't have to do it but whadiyado.
Nic, told my mate today what you did. Rest of jacket is very good. Think thats his plan now. Alpine Stars wrty shut due to virus. Great advice Mate. 👍

Thanks Grog, glad I could help, make sure the iron has a pointed tip so you can get the solder in there clean and fast. I haven't had a prob since doing mine, very disappointing YKK zips supposed to be the bomb.
