Title: Help identifying Inner vs Outer downpipes - Need to replace #2
Post by: vonny232 on Thursday, 19 March 2020, 08:42 PM
Hi Folks,

I need to replace my Cyl#2 downpipe due to REALLY BAD corrosion (the outer skin has almost detatched from the inner tube where the it connects to the collector).

I was going to buy a full Delkevik downpipe and collector system but given the Corona outbreak I dont want to be spending that kind of money.

I have found two downpipes (from the same seller) on Ebay and I believe its one inner and one outer (but maybe there both the same??).

Can someone please help me identify if one is the inner downpipe please?

Cheers

I have a set of stock headers in the shed, I will check what the difference is tomorrow (it's 10.30pm here) if no one has responded by then.

I really don't know where he is getting those part numbers from, as they are not factory part numbers, so its impossible to say which is which.

Below the microfiche with the Suzuki part numbers.

I think thats an item number for his online shop. I dont think hes referring to the Suzuki part number.

I emailed him and he doesent know which is which.

Barmy - Thats odd. Each header has a different part #. I thought 1&4 and 2&3 are identical.

Me too - why they are like that I have no idea - although I seem to recall (vaguely) that each cylinder number is stamped on the underside of each header (underneath where it fits into the cylinder head). May be wrong, just a vague memory - which may well be why they have different part numbers

The cyl no's are stamped on standard down pipes.

They are different lengths between the inner and outer.

The different part numbers could only be because of the cylinder numbers because pipes 1 and 4 are the same as is 2 and 3. Both outer pipes are totally different to the inner pair (bend angles mainly).

Later model 4 into 1 stainless pipes are different in sizes & bends to the chrome early model ones but as a set will match up to early model twin collectors and mufflers like my bike.
