Hi
Can I ask what is the difference is between a K2 and K3 ? I bought mine as a K2 but people are saying it's a K3 May 2003 registered
K2 and k3 are the same except got the paint .
The big change came with the k5 they have a lot of differences
Apart from the paint, I don`t think there is a difference between the K2 & K3 - but I stand to be corrected by those here in the know. Mine`s a K3 for sure on a `53 Plate and the paint job is the same as yours......
Thanks
I have ridden out and wow the bike is beautiful . I can see why everyone is happy with the gsx 1400
I have a few different bikes and after 20 miles I think it's my best one
There are other differences between K2 and K3 besides the Paint (at least on German 14s):
K3: The wire harness has been changed due to introduction of hazard lights and lights on when ignition is turned on with key.
The bearings for the steering stem changed from ball bearing to tapered-rolling bearings. Also the rear shocks were modified (unsuccessfully) due to the known preload leaking problem.
Fuel rail material was also changed. Can't remember the materials.
Almost forgot the incredible improvement of adding a 4th hole to the bling-covers to the sides of the throttle bodies :coffeescreen:
Thanks

Hello Bailey, welcome from another K3 owner
However IMO the k2 has the better paint graphics plus it also came with polished front and rear foot hangers.
Enjoy :)
Should I fit a hugger as there is no chain guard or just fit a chain guard . I know it's down to to personal taste . Has anyone got an original chain guard for sale .
Oh you definitely should have a chain guard of some sort !
Not all huggers incorporate chain guards (though most these days do) and yes its a matter of personal taste.
With that bike, if I were you, I'd see if I could track down a genuine chain guard. Be careful though - a common failure point is the front tab on the guard, securing it to the bike there. Can split from vibration over time. so may either be dodgied up with a washer or something, or possible repaired. Just something to be aware of to check when shopping, when looking at second hand parts. :)
Welcome and enjoy our family we all love the big 1402 :onya:
Thanks
Hi Bailey, I'm a recent newbe too so a big welcome from Big Phil. You definitely have a great looking bike there and obviously being blue and white the best and fastest colour scheme😂 Concerning the chain guard if you do find an original one you can also fit a Power Bronze hugger and keep it in situ. That's what I have done on my K2. The instructions with the hugger tell you to remove the chain guard but in fact the supplied bracket fits over the top of the chain guard. You do however need to swap out the M6 bolt supplied with the hugger on the chain guard side (nearest the back of the bike) with a shorter 10/12 mm length one to stop it snagging on the chain guard. Personally I think huggers look cool but most importantly protect the very fragile rear shocks from grit and dirt. Happy Biking🤗
Thanks Big Phil
I love going into my garage just look at the bike .
Thanks for the info
😂😂😂That's what I do all the time and now my misses says she's become a garage a widow 😂😂😂

Those bling covers went from metal to plastic if memory serves.
Didn't the plastic side covers go matt for the K2 onwards too? only K2s having the correct glossy ones.
Yep, my k3 has "metallic look" plastic little covers over the throttle bodies. The side covers over the rear brake master cylinder on rhs and fuses on the lhs are black plastic with a metallic black finish thats actually quite nice. Mines still original, the manufacturing dates on the back date to oct and nov 2002.
"metal to plastic" - didn't know that - I am absolutely shocked.
Yep, I like the glossy black - matches the rest of the black parts.
I only noticed when I was with my ex Vicky & between us we had three K2s & then she got a K3 as well.
