Title: Intruduction!
Post by: Jambo on Friday, 28 February 2020, 01:36 AM
Hello to everyone.
I am from Portugal. I live in Estoril, which is on the outskirts of Lisbon.
I am 45 years old and just passed my exame laste month and on that same day I bought this beauty...

I was to have a bike on my 16 birthday. My father told if I did good in school, I could even choose which one. Obviously, it would be a 50cc, which is still the limit for the 16 year old kids. I did good in school and the deal was done, so I thought. I had to wait until the 14 of november from the ending of school.
My brother which is two and a half years older than I, already had a Vespa. which he crashed on that the summer, braking both knee caps. It was awefull, one day everything was great, the next, my mother said, NO MORE BIKES IN THIS HOUSE! and that's the way we went. Nor I or my brother ever rode again!
My father always had bike. He was an airline pilot, and his bikes were, among other I don't remember, A Suzuki GS125, Kawazaki EN450 LTS, Yamaha TDM850 and a Blackbird. Some people, don't crash, why? That got me thinking, and I have got to the conclusion that it is a mindset.
I cannot ask my father how he manage to survive without a single incident, he is not with us anymore.
I hope, maximum situation awerness with a sprinkle of what if... may help me along the way.
I will need help to fix the bike. But don't worry, I will google stuff first. Lots of content on the web. I came across this gentleman Delboy's Garage on youtube. I like him, better than the Haynes manual!
that is about it and  :1400spray:

Cheers

Welcome Jambo, thanks for the intro. Fully agree  it is a mindset.  When i finally got my licence, my instructor told me that riding a bike is easy, they can  teach circus monkeys to do  it.!  The hard part is teaching people the right mindset, and having the aptitude to think for everyone else on the road.

That has always stuck with me, and whilst i dont ride everyday, when i do ride, i think about that statement and how it affects my approach to riding.

I have never crashed.

Thanks for the tip, I have actually came across MCrider, good. The one I actually watch is DanDantheFireman. He brakes down accidents, and it all comes down to mindset not adjusted for the situation, or pure lack of abilities to ride.

Yes sir. My instructor had a diferent approach. He used to said that "we had to take care of other drivers" in a babysiter way...if you know what I mean. People do dumb stuff like children. One cannot get angry or upset with a baby! can he? We educate them, politely tell them why they are wrong and why they should not do it!
Always vigilant.

Thanks again!

Welcome to the forum Jambo.  :onya: I treat all other road users as idiots out to get me and do me harm so I ride accordingly, it's called defensive riding in posh circles
