Title: Brake Rotors
Post by: Pete67 on Sunday, 26 January 2020, 06:35 PM
Greetings all.

I have a K7.
46k have just replace pads with ECB scintered type...
Make an noise when just about to stop, howling!!!
Have sanded rotors and pads with wet and dry, applied copper grease to pins and rear of pads, given everything a healthy dose of brake cleaner but still makes the noise.
Am considering replacing rotors or going back to genuine pads.
Had wanted to replace rotors anyway. Could anyone recommend a make of custom rotor if I did replace.
Cheers Pete

Mate, i had exact same problem with same pads. Mine was rear. Horrible noises. Threw in bin after 300ks. Replaced rotor and pads with Metal Gear. All perfect after that. Id be trying just pads b4 you throw away good rotors on front, expensive exercise. Wet n dry paper on rotors, brake clean them, see how you go. Lots like EBC but my experience wasnt good. Just IMO. Set of Metal Gear pads is only $80.

I fitted EBC disks and organic pads to my K7 a couple of years ago and have not had any problems with them.

Running with EBC Double H Sintered pads and EBC rotors on my K3 (front). No problems. If your brakes are squeling then likely as not your pads aren`t compatible with your rotors. If the noise you`re getting is more of a clicking sound, ignore it - its not unusual for floating discs to make that noise, its caused by the tolerance and movement between the rotors and the bobbins.

I wouldn't run sintered pads on standard 14 rotors. Cast rotors and sintered are not a good combo IMO (like putting a grinder to the rotors).

I replaced with EBC VEE rotors (stainless steel) and EBC sintered pads with no problems.

@ pete67 i have the same problem, from about 10 mph down to zero my brakes make a horrible squealing noise and it's been bugging the hell out of me, now I know I've got the wrong pads in ,I can change them and give the calipers a good clean as well just for good measure and hopefully solve the problem. :notworthy:
