Well, haven't been on here in a good while to annoy yas!!
Haven't been near the bike in a few weeks.
But before I stopped I felt a bit of a hole in the exhaust muffler.
I thought it was a small one but nope it's quite big :imrgreen:

So for now I did a Gunter of a job

A friend has the originals for me so this will hopefully do for the time being.
In my huge thread the lads there suggested it was the rear shock bolt. And it was that . As always yas are right :salute:
So I swapped the bolt around to have the head of bolt on the outside and nut on the inside.
But now the exhaust is tight up against the bolt still . I'm unsure why or how to proceed with it? As always your wisdom is appreciated.
This is the exhaust now

This is the other side. No bother with the exhaust

I don't get this. On my K2 both sides' distances are equal and the bolts are well far away from the cans. I'll try to remember and take pics tomorrow.
Loosen the muffler to header clamp and muffler to frame clamp and just pull / twist it away from the frame and then retighten it all up.
Any previous impact / accident damage to LH hanger?
I can't remember how the original cans fit, it's not on the wrong side of the hanger where it's bolted on is it?

I suspect more that the complete exhaust system is misaligned Andy. I had this before on mine when I had the whole 4into2 stystem off in that the system "kinked" on the collector, as not every joint was in completely - getting those headers all the way into the collector joints can be a bugger.
@Suzuki boi - here's how to align your complete exhaust system
You'll know when its right as the gaps between the lower suspension bolts and the exhausts will be equal - that's what you are aiming for. To re-align, what you need to do is loosen every bolt on the exhaust (header bolts, header/collector bolts, collector bolt, collector/exhaust bolts and bolts that hold the exhausts on) so they are (literally) finger tight and then juggle the exhaust around to get it all aligned and fitting right. The biggest area where it goes out are where the headers fit into the collector, often these need to be really pushed home well. It can take a bit of fiddling to get right but can be done trust me.
If you don't want to do that then try fitting the exhaust to the outside of the hanger - that will work, but is just a sign that your exhaust is mis-aligned.
Thinking back Barmy, despite looking after four 14s over the years. I'm pretty sure I've never worked on one that had standard exhausts, except to take one set off.
What you say above makes sense though, I had to do most of that to fit Blue Flame cans properly on one of Moth's K2s.
Thanks lads.
No damage on it all.
@VladTepes Nice one
@gsxbarmy and
@steve porter Makes sense that the whole system could be misaligned. Tho if I remember correctly I'm hoping I had everything in properly when I put the exhaust system back on. Tho im terrified of them header bolts. Last time I touched them I had to remove the engine and get 6 bolts drilled out. :happy1:
I'm not sure if it's the tiredness but what do you mean by the outside of the hanger? I'm pretty sure it's normally attached on the outside of it normally?
They are just confirming it is attached to the outside of the hanger like this. As opposed to coming off the inside (where my finger is)
Errr, chaps, the manual shows photo's of the exhaust being fitted on the inside of the hanger. Section 2 page 24 & section 6 page 41. If it's on the outside & it fits up ok, then I don't see any problem, but it does show it on the inside. Same sort of thing as which side the rear axle nut goes I suppose.
Some of us are Rebels though Col
I had to go to the outside when I put the Delkevic link pipe & can on. Thanks for clarifying though :onya:
I have an original single pipe K7 on mine and the bracket is on the inside.

Absolutely correct Col, and it should be on the inside. If you have to fit the exhaust to the outside of the hanger to get clearance, that's normally a sign that the entire system is out of alignment.

The likelihood is that the headers are not all equally into the collector, or just slightly kinked on the collector. What sometimes works if it is just slightly misaligned is loosening off all the bolts but not the header bolts and jiggling the system. Once it's all moveable, usually getting hold of the end of one of the exhausts and moving it will adjust the collector - it all depends to a large extent how easily the pipes move on the collector box gaskets, in particular where the headers go in.

Thanks barmy , I'll loosen it all and check it later.
This is the bracket on mine. Fitted on outside already.

It could fit on either side pending on how the mounting bracket is bent as it is not an original exhaust. Although it is probably to short to go on the inside.
My opinion, just get another exhaust that works, doesnt go near shockie. Pity your not closer as i could give you one. Reason i dont use as i think it sits too far out. Leo Vance and link pipe. Sounds excellent. Yeah Vlad, it came back. Its free for anyone who is close to picjk up. Not a cheapie, was bloody expensive. I just dont need or want.
While im feeling generous, have F1 screen that mounts via headlight bolts. Quality USA item, free to pick up.smoke colour. 14 is a naked bike, i prefer that. If you want, ill even chuck in free beer or coffee. Not posting. But wait, no steak knives included.
@grog I'll start swimming down to you now and I should be there by next Christmas
.
So I went out to loosen the muffler and collector box and to my believe the collector box isn't attached to the frame anymore!!!!!

Looks like the bracket has broken off

The part circled isnt there anymore.
This exhaust system(headers and collectors)were bought August 2018 and only been on for 6 months.
Absolute joke.
Probably from all the movement and stress from the shock nut rubbing on the muffler.
There's nothing for it but to buy a new full Akro system.
