Just wondering and why. I need a new jacket for next Winter. I have two textile and one leather. Leather is now too big, i lost some weight. Summer textile perfect but Winter textile lining is stuffed. Which and why is the choice, leather or textile.
My first choice has always been leather for its higher levels of protection. However I have recently been looking into good quality laminated textiles (rukka, klim, dane etc) as some of them have additional anti abrasion coverings on the shoulders, elbows and back along with good quality armour. They have the advantage of being totally waterproof for the winter (and our summers) but have vents all over the place to allow it to be worn on the warmer days. So my next jacket will be a top quality textile jacket so I can dress for any condition, hot, cold or wet but I will still be keeping my leathers for dry days.
I live my textiles have top quality range of kits for both summer and winter
Rukka :)
@grog In Oz I use Dririder Storm does me winter and summer, liner in liner out.
In UK Dririder with liner in and nylon over jacket onboard all the time.
I have some summer heine gericke kit and halvarsson kit for the winter along with a keis heated liner for when it's really cold .
Leathers all year for me, I don't feel protected in textiles & they catch the wind too much making long rides more tiring.
Heated kit & having finally found some waterproofs that live up to their name makes it fine all year around.
Shorts, singlet, thongs (AKA Jandals / Flip Flops) & an open face helmet for summer Grog. Winter, take the Corolla.
Dririder textile with the seperate rain & thermal liner. Does me all year round with another layer or 2 under for Winter mornings.

Good point, open face lid & summer gloves all year too.
Don't you wear a flip front beard Hooli :stir:
Textiles for me
My next jacket will most likely be an RST Paragon 5 textile. Have worn out my Paragon 4, thrashed it for the best part of 5 years.
I hope their jackets are better than their boots. My last RST boots lasted 3 months & completely fell apart, it was the material not the stitching too.
Now im confused. Was looking at buying RST leather jacket. Gets great reviews but after your boots Hooli? Jackets seem to be bigger can of worms than helmets, oil & tyres.
Making leather jackets is a whole different game than making boots. Doesn't mean that one who makes good jackets also makes good boots.
TBH most things I've heard about RST have been good, it's just those particular boots that appear to fall apart.
Best boots I have ever bought are Daytona's. Not cheap, but 100% waterproof and very comfortable.
I'm happy with my handmade Alt-Bergs, they should last me years.

Those would be the ones I can't get here!
Jacket & jeans - top quality textile for me, removable quilted liner, can`t go wrong. Too many poor leathers out there today, prone to split at the seams and rip open - just when you felt you were safe.....!
Boots - Sidi. I have the Sidi vertebra type. A1 quality and comfort, had them years :).
