Anyone use Nolan N 40-5 GT helmet. Im not normally a full face wearer but this one has removeable chin piece, at least if i still dont like full face can open it up. Gets good ticks for comfort etc.
Not that one Grog, I got a Nolan flip face lid. N100-5 it's called, brought it online from The Netherlands as they were not avail here yet / then.
Had a check & put the right helmet model in.
@grog bit of info on this helmet, you can ride with it open or closed & it's approved as both, an open face & full face. Internal visor which works with lid open too. The below shamelessly plagiarised off a review about them.
"riding with the N100-5 in the open position, it meets European safety standards as both an open-face and a full-face helmet; in the U.S. it is DOT approved".
I'm with you here Grog.
I like the idea of a visor as I'm getting more and more sun burnt/heat stressed while riding in the Qld heat.
Also the versatility of the shape with/with out the chin section, etc. I'm open for anything new.
Basically I need it while using my motorbike, now when using my angle grinder, that's another thing all together.
Anyone, has anyone tried this helmet. At present I have the BELL RS-1 Emblem White in XL. Had it for 6-7 years now ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AldY-IoODM ). I have found this very good for me.
Sheepy, another i like, open face only, Scorpion EXO 220. Problem is neither stocked in Oz. Reluctant to buy a helmet without trying it on. My mate had cochlear implant and cant wear normal helmet now. Hes checking out Voztec, supposed to be ok. Have a look how they work, not for me but interesting concept.
I've been using Shark Evo Line carbon (saves a bit of weight) for several years with no complaints. :onya: :onya: :onya:
i got a Shark flip up helmet a couple of years back, pretty impressed with it as when flipped up you wouldn`t know it wasn`t an open face as it flips all the way over and locks on the back, also has the flip down sun visor which works well, also not overly noisy.

Hey Grog, if you a size "S" I have a virtually new Shoei Neotec (flip up) you can borrow for a week or so to see if you like that sort of thing.
Thanks BJ, im more like XL. Not a fan of flip up, just old skool open face, i like the Nolan as gives the option. Yeah, i know all the safety stuff, just never found full face i like. Gave away an expensive Shoei i just couldnt stand. No sideways vision.
Grog, ya gotta try on the N100-5, that has a very good view angle, up and down & left and right, one of the reasons I got it, plus you can ride with the chin bar raised. It's a compliant helmet worn either way.
Col, you mightve talked me into one of those. Certainly get good reviews, you and all the testers. Got all the goodies, pinlock even. Ill find a place to try one on. I like the Lava grey colour, $470 delivered.
Sorry, double post. Col. they reckon ventilation not good with lid closed, true or just crap. Just lift the front up im thinking.
I have used 3 Nolan N104's with Bluetooth for last 12-15 years. Currently have the N100 with the Bluetooth and I would also recommend them
I also have a BMW (Schuberth) Modular Helmet. It has a better tint on the sun visor and less wind noise but BMW Bluetooth sucks and the speakers were a bit tinny.
The decider is the Nolan visor closes if you open the face shield. I forgetfully left my BMW visor open and the wind ripped the visor off when I lifted the face shield.

I personally find the ventilation just fine while on the move, if stopped for any length of time on a hot day, I just flip the front open & close again when I feel like it once underway. Opening is easy left hand job even with gloves. Use thumb to pull bottom out, index finger to operate the shorter top lever bit of it , squeeze together & she's unlocked ready to flip open. Takes about 3 seconds to go from full face to open.
Closing is just pull down on the chin area and it locks, quite audible that it's locked into place.
One more question, can you use hemet lock on 14 with it?
Nope
Should be able to fit a D-ring to it!?
I really like the quick release system on my Nolan Grog, and it outweighs the negatives of not being able to use the lock for me.
Can use it with gloves on, can tighten or loosen it with ease & can even do it up will riding when you realise that you forgot too do it ;) ( I in no way condone this behaviour) unless you have a throttle lock like me ;) ;)
