Thankfully I have managed to pick up my K4 in red and black now, the lucky bit is that it has only done 2800 dry miles.
When I went to view it last week I could instantly see that it was clean but wanting to play it cool I didn't look too close, the gut feeling was there straightaway.
The mot history checked out with the service history(in early years) and I couldn't see a reason not to buy it once a reasonable price was agreed.
Only a few issues, the casings are in the usual condition and the fork legs will need painting in due course and the engine was missing on one cylinder. When started from cold it sounded a bit like a lawnmower.
Got the bike home last Thursday and At the weekend changed the plugs, air filter, drained the old fuel ,replacing with super duper stuff and now it runs sweetly.
It's been pissing down ever since so not had the chance to get out but I'm sure things will Ben just great.
Oh and mot passed too.
Nice find Chrisl. Sweet looking bike. Enjoy :onya:
Nice bike you have there :onya:
More pics, bit boring but will have better ones when it stops bloody raining !
Yes a good day indeed, especially as I had agreed to buy another k4 ,same colour with 16500 miles on it , from a dealer £800 more than I paid for this one !
I made my excuses and declined the deal unashamedly ..
Nice find Chris, I'm not keen on the silencers but easy enough to swap
Bob, I agree. Carbon can Co have quoted me £40 each to reskin them in stainless which I didn't think was bad, mate of mine said they made the bike look like something out of Michael Jackson's Thriller video Lol
Btw Milts , I still have to get over to you to look at your Std exhausts - not forgotten, just been busy with work.
Nice pick up there Chris
Hi Chris
Great to meet you in person last week.
Sophie says you got THE best colour !
I actually bought mine because at that time I had never seen a Black/Red but several mates had Blue/Whites.
An excellent find mate that's literally not run in yet !!
I recommend a decent long ride to clear out the cobwebs.
Nice bike mate, very nice. Not knocking at all, just my thoughts, others often disagree. Not liking cans, red bars or red grab rail.I would have shiny all three. You can tell me to get knicked if you want. Nice bike, minor details, your bike, do it your way.
@grog if he's going to go that far he may as well paint it FAST Blue and White :stir: :stir: :stir: :stir:
P.S. Chris a very nice bike. I'd be curious as to why so few miles/K's on it :whistling: :whistling: :whistling:
Nice find :onya:
enjoy the 14
Nice bike with nice mileage
Great find !! my K5 had 1900 miles on it when I bought it in 2016 and despite the low miles and age there were no problems due to lack of use :)
When I brought my red/black k5 it had only done 6400 miles at 13years old the only problem was the tyres that looked great were also old and had gone off .
2 new tyres and a service later I've never looked back the bikes now at 27000 miles 3 years later without a hitch .
I bought my k7 in 08 with just 600 miles on the clock,11 yrs later I'm up to 14k now :boogie2:  :smile2:
Thanks for the comments guys, I accept that the cans are horrendous ,I will change them in due course as I will the bars which will go back to std.
I happen to like the red grab handle despite the hurtful comment Lol
Ref the mileage, I have to admit being sceptical as it was listed on gumtree for 3 weeks and didn't sell, I had saved it in favs so recalled it and gave the chap a ring, turns out that the first owner put 2300mls on it in 3 years then the next two (father & son) the next 500.
It all checked out , tyres, pads, air filter are new so jobs a good un!
Cant wait to give it a run Weather permitting
That poor bike, it must be agoraphobic after being locked up for so many years.
@Chrisl Just be very careful on the tyres I'd seriously check the age of them.
The tyres on my bike looked great and felt good in the dry but the first time out in the rain the bike was almost unrideable .it was ok again the next time in the dry and then horrible in the rain they were change the next day after I was out the 2nd time in the rain .
Spot on Seth. They would be the original tyres with that mileage & I would change them straight away for sure.
Even in the dry, you might think they are ok, but they would be like wood I would say. The difference a New set of tyres will make, would be unbelievable if they are originals.
Look for an oval 'stamp' on the side of the tyre with four numbers in it. That'll the week & year of manufacture. ie 2207 is the 22nd week of 2007.
I think it looks like a BT-020 tread in the pic, if so I'd bin them anyway. The only thing worse than those is BT-021s.
Yeah mate, just change them. Nothing like new tyres. Ill recommend you get, like hell i will.
I'm hearing wise words , planning to get tyres done this weekend. Will try to resist the urge to run some fuel thru it.
020's they are, orig figment if I remember. Couldn't see the dot on them but They were always on my list to get done.
Yes Simon good to meet you and thanks for the manual and bitsnbobs !
I didn't ride my Fe due to work commitments but I'm determined to use this one .
Appreciate the comments guys
There are a couple of highly recommend tyres that really work well .
Just go to the tyres threads .
Ask the question what the best tyres and then watch your pc/phone ECT go into meltdown .
But seriously a new Pirelli Angel of any model or a Michelin road pilot 4 or newer .
Plus a couple if other choices.
From other tyre manufacturers
The main thing anything modern and new will be great .
I wouldn't fit mega sports tyres as our bikes eat them in no time lol
@seth they sure do, I tried some :wheelie: Pirelli supersport tyres, :smoke: I think they lasted 3,000km's just the sheer weight of the bike + FB rider tore them up.
FB = Fat Bastard :hat:
Enjoy :onya:
