Evil body of water that is.
Used to crew on a 50 foot Police rescue launch back in the day when I was in the constabulary.
More lucky escapes out there than most people would have in a lfetime.

At the Springs?? You know about that??
Col is closest and was.fine on Wednesday.
Do I smell a hint of Speedway..........Western Springs??
Yep .. except I was confused as usual :confused1:
The event at Western Springs is Rolling Thunder, not Days of Thunder ...
Looks like a decent nights racing to be had and all ..

Used to crew for mate that was in the NZ Midget Car Team in the 80's. Used to have a lot of good times with the speedway. Back in the days of Barry Butterworth, Ted Tracey, Tripp, Vogler, Sills and a bunch of hard case Aussies.

I think the fires around the Port Hills in Christchurch are contained now and I believe they have had some drizzle so that will help.
Meanwhile in Tauranga in the North Island we are getting soaked big time. I have a 30,000 litre water tank which was near empty on Wednesday, within 24hrs it was overflowing. It is still overflowing !!
Doesn't look like I'll be going to the "Battle of The Streets" street-races in Paeroa tomorrow. They wont run if its even a little damp.
Another good street circuit.......have a look on UTube.
Was there in '07 - good race place!

Thanks for the good wishes guys. I'm fine & not near the hills. The fire is officially under control, quite a few houses were lost, early reports said hundreds lost now, 40 odd, not sure what the final number will be, but devastating for those familys.
Heard a report of 1 place the went up had 40 classic cars stored in a garage there - all lost & not insured.
Very sad about the chopper pilot who crashed & died fighting the fire.
Some of the people from evacuated homes are being allowed back in for 1 hour to get stuff, then out again.
Regions within the fire area are still showing up on infrared as hotspots at 400 - 500 degrees Celsius! There was a pic in the paper of a couple of burnt out cars at a place & showed the metal had melted & ran like water across the bricks & formed a pool of silver molten metal, now that's hot!
Still overcast & odd drizzle, but nothing to help damp the hotspots - they say.
They say it's about as effective as spitting on a BBQ. Weather is supposed to warm up again this week, & firemen are saying it could go again if the wind get to it.

Old mate of mine, Nigel Harris, was a great mate of Barry Butterworth.
He was our former Auckland branch manager and had cupboard fulls of speedway memorabilia.
I know a Des Harris and Gary Harris. No Nigel im sorry.
