Title: Paddock Stand Bobbin Mounts
Post by: Del on Friday, 17 February 2017, 07:06 AM
Has anyone ever tried to modify the swingarm of the 1400 to allow it to take a set of bobbins - Ive just painted the arm and dont want it to get scratched - I do have a set of bobbins that go though the rear spindle but these dont allow me to remove the rear wheel

I have a spare swingarm here and was thinking about having brackets made up and welded to the arm

Im not sure if the weight of the bike would take it - my ZRX1100 is a fairly heavy bike and it has under swingarm mounts for bobbins

sounds ok but it is a heavy bike but if you have centre stand you can remove wheel no probs and you can move swing arm as well so seems a long way round just to remove wheel but if you don't like centre stand then I see the point .

I know what you mean but the centre stand went ages ago when I fitted the Akrapovic system as it fouled on it

Abba stand to remove rear wheel if you've removed the centre stand...Wont let you get the swing arm out though.

Hi
yeah fitted bobbins to mine. Just drilled and tapped the arm. Was a bit unsure but have been in 5 yearsrs no problem. Better if rivnuts are used

My rear stand has the rubber cups that lift on the swingarm, which means rear wheel can be removed easily. Seems easier to use these rather than drill the swingarm to mount bobbins......not that I'm against the bobbins but just took the easy option (this time).

I was going to do same as halibag but with rivnuts for extra protection / srengtg.
When you drill make sure not to interfere with the adjuster bolt !

I do love my red ones though....

You can reanodise Gilles to red color.  Reanodise cost few bucks.

I've removed centerstand  due to exhaust clearance, but as it's a minute job I refit the centerstand without the springs when I want to do any work.
Saves the cost of buying a paddock stand and the hassle of bobbins etc.
