Title: Hard To Spot
Post by: grog on Wednesday, 25 September 2019, 07:15 PM
Just for SE Queenslanders. Today saw my first totally unmarked police bike. Black flat twin BMW. Copper just wearing black riding suit/white helmet. When he turns on his lights sure visible, not before. Was told another is a Busa, he tends to rev it beside you at lights, a bit of tempting to race. If you do, you know what happens. Eyes open fellas.

It's fun if you do spot them & race them up to exactly the limit. They look so pissed off  :stir: :whistling:

They do that here in the more biking popular area's of the UK
Very simular m.o.as you describe @grog .
I don't agree with go b9nkers everywhere but I do like a blast every now and then if the conditions are right .

The cars are just as bad, they'll tailgate everyone trying to make you speed up so they can stop you for speeding.

@grog Morgan & Wackers provide the Police with R1200RS with all the bells & whistles, they have four so far all black models. Apparently they don't handle so well with the heavy load. FYI, not a very  popular model on sales figures, so if you see a black one, around Stanley River Road etc., odds are it's an undercover/covert Police vehicle. Cops have been haunting Mt.Glorious area since that guy went missing.  :jack: :jack:

There are several around Brisbane / SEQ.

There was a black Busa, a white Busa, various BMW's, some DR type trail bikes etc.

Apart from the dirtbikes that get around the beaches and national parks most of the other undercover bikes are large sports tourers with some form of luggage, rider normally has a white lid.

Police here are using a method from my childhood when they stood with a handheld radio at 2 spots to take the time a driver took between them. It's attractive to them because of a new law against illegal races. They can even construe that you are illegally racing against yourself. They used it last week with the result that they confiscated 1 bike and got the license plate of another who escaped for the moment.

We have "Point to point" cameras here.

Some are used to stop trucks going through suburbia, they read plates going in and out and trucks avoiding toll roads or longer routes get picked up.

I've seen point to point cameras in Qld and NSW too on the highways.

The point-to-point measure, regardless of the method used, doesn't face me much. When I tell people that I open the throttle before I go into a corner they look at me bewildered. On the straights I go easy, often below the limit. Firstly so I put some distance between me and a potential obstacle (also called tin-can) in front before a stretch of corners. Secondly to watch the flowers on the side of the road :happy1: Also I ride corners differently than most. Instead of using a line to get as fast as possible through it, I use a line that will give me the most lean angle. If I feel the urge for speed I do that on the Autobahn. Doesn't happen very often though.

I've supplied quiet a few Stingers in various colours.
I'd be surprised if they were all marked cars.

I know they regularly change the unmarked / undercover cars.
There was a Ute and trailer,
a sporty Maloo type Ute,
a flat bed transit type light truck etc.

This one used to be just up the road from Brisbane Motorcycles heading North with a camera as you entered the school zone outside the old office works store.

I was pulled over by an unmarked black Holden V8 HSV he tried to tailgate me checking my speed in my street, I was on the RD400 at the time. He said I gassed it coming in the street I said it only looked like that because of the two stroke smoke.

Folk have a cry here and moan about sneaky cops, over policing and being picked on.

In reality a lot of folk speed in school zones, residential areas around the city, and the local mountains that have quite high crash and fatality numbers.

It's not hard to do the right thing when needed, and find somewhere to turn up the pace and have a play elsewhere.

Every weekend folk head to well known police hot spots with loud pipes, they speed, some crash, then there's outrage on Facebook because the police were there.

The only people I've ever known who wanted to be cops are exactly the sort of people that shouldn't be allowed to have the job.
