I liked this true one.
First time I heard that it was a Polish pilot.
Wasn't there a scouse comedian in the 1970s who had a routine about this? Stan Boardman?
I feel old now...
The cyclist?
Saying that story on the prime time Des O'Connor show years ago got Stan Boardman band from the BBC for many years
:whistling:
Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8Yf5B6GbYk
Some good comics on Utube. Just watched a clip of Bernard Manning, another funny man :rofl2:
Is it accurate? Who cares. It's funny !
Interestingly this came up on another forum as well and someone shared this story:
QuoteReminds me of what the great cricketing all rounder Sir Keith Miller said when asked if he was worried about facing an English fast bowling attack before an Ashes test in 1947.
'That's not pressure; pressure is when you have a Messerschmitt on your tail.'
Puts things in perspective.
There is a quote that I love, that is said to be from Bader, but I've seen it credited elsewhere too. I've been know to direct it to my manager at work, much to his disgust....
"Rules are for the guidance of wise men and the obedience of fools"
