That's something I didn't know, the race bikes' gear changes are opposite to normal. He was 'going up' to change down & down to 'change up'. Now that'd take some getting used to.
Col, back to the old Pommy bikes. Years ago my Old Man had a Goldstar BSA, totally restored to new. I was used to Jap gearchange by then. Took it out one day, gave her a rev in 2nd, popped into 3rd. Wrong way son, into 1st, locked rear wheel and dropped it. No damage as slid onto grass. Bit off topic but just reminded me of that day.

Normal for race / track day bikes. Several mates have done it. I rode a GSXR1000 and when the pace was a bit heated changed down coming out of a bend... whoops!

Yeah Col, it surprised me & had no idea they were like that.
There was a clip on YouTube of a set of Japanese rearsets, you reached down and flicked apart through 180 degrees to turn from street to track shift. Some very clever engineering if nothing else.

It's done that way Col so you can change up on the exit of a left hander without trying to hook your foot under the lever, not a good idea.
Interesting watching the chain tighten and loosen so much off throttle it rubs on top of the swingarm more than I expected.
Those footpegs are extremely light. I picked up Chaz Davis at P.I. after he crashed and pocketed a broken footpeg and mount, it weighed maybe 50-60 grams. Clerk of the Course confiscated it from me later that day. "Bonded freight" excuse. Marshalling gets you close to the action too :onya: :onya:
I ran three different shift patterns at the same time for a while, std left pattern on BM K100, left race pattern on 851 race bike and right reverse, or race pattern on 2 bevel drive Ducati's, the first few minutes on each required some thought which I helped by hooking the brake foot under the lever until the brain kicked in
