Title: GSX1400 Newbie
Post by: Tonythetiger on Sunday, 18 August 2019, 08:41 AM
Hi all, I'm a newbie to this site so bare with me.
I live in Sunderland , United Kingdom and I've just bought my first GSX1400 K3, I've wanted one of these for years but never got around to buying one until now, I currently own a Triumph Daytona 955i aswell which is a lovely bike to ride, But at 53 y.o I was finding the racing position a little harder these days lol.
I'm looking forward to putting some mileage on the big 14 when I get time as I own a small Haulage company and I'm away quite a bit working. I only managed 450 miles on the Triumph last year to this.
ANY tips and advice on the maintenance would be very welcome.
                                                         Tony.

Welcome Tony..
Its good to have a Geordie aboard..
I have been a member of many forums both Bikes and Cars..
This is one of the best I have been on..
Have a look in the downloads section..
LOADS of useful info..
I have downloaded and printed off most of it and made a sort of workshop manual...

Anyway,
Welcome aboard mate

Simon

Thanks lads, I will have a browse around the site. I'll let the Geordie thing slide as well haha
I can't wait to get her out on the road, that seat was heaven compared to the Daytona.

Looks like the seat has been customised. Standard seat is satisfactory, not brilliant IMHO  :stir: :stir: :stir:

Hi Tony and Welcome.

You have my deepest sympathy for living in Sunderland but at least you have a nice bike so you can put it in your mirrors...  ;)
Only joking..  :stir:

Have a read of some older posts, most issues are well documented.

Fork legs and side cases need love or corrosion get in.

Adjusters on rear shocks seize if not used and maintained.

The bikes are getting on a bit so in tank fuel filters can be an issue.

Other stuff like swingarms cracking near the spindle and frames rotting near the shock mount have happened but to be fair they are pretty rare to find.

Good bikes.
Classic Old Skool style, lots of grunt, comfort, good tank range and not a nightmare to work on or fix.

Have a good look around the forum as loads of info here .
Enjoy the bike and ask if your not sure on anything .
Main thing with the gsx 1400 is regular oil changes/servicing

Well I've been out for a ride on the bike and she rides beautifully, rock solid on the road and pulled like a train in every gear. It hammered my friends 1200 bandit when he tried to leave me.
What a bike...
