Today was talking to bloke with FE. Totally original, even bazooka. Reckons the best bike hes ever owned. I was looking at it while talking. Made my blood curl. Never been washed. Exhaust leaking somewhere. Cases , fork legs etc all corroded. Fuel stains around tank filler. Can imagine how much service, adjustment its had. Zero. Chain was even rusty. I was up to offer a price, a month of care i was thinking, Not even 20 th ks. I could make it beautiful. Wont sell. People like that annoy me so bad, such a great machine getting totally ruined.
It's such a shame to see any bike that's so badly maintained .
I often wonder why they care so little about there own safety to be bothered either looking after thier bike or having it maintained.
Why buy a descent bike in the first place :whatever:
Sadly, some people just don't take a pride in their bikes. To them it is just a form of transport and they don't care what it looks like. To me a dirty bike is a neglected and badly maintained bike :furious:
Mine has done 50,000+ miles now and it gets cleaned every week in the winter and when it needs it in the summer. If it gets wet commuting it gets cleaned.
I'm torn between two camps.
It's his bike, it's only nuts, bolts and plastic. It has no feelings and it's not rare.
If that what he wants to do it's up to him.
Most 14 owners would hate my Black Rat.
It's rarely cleaned, dented tank, gravel rashed cases etc and unlikely to be fixed soon.
I am fussy about stuff like tyre pressure, wear, chain tension, head bearings etc.
I probably clean my disc bobbins more than most.
I want my bike to work well and be safe.
If mine looks like crap it doesn't really bother me.
It's a cheap big bore rat that isn't a bling fairy or show bike.
Motorcycle ownership covers many divides.
There will always be folk who own bikes that suffer badly.
The guy in the original post obviously isn't a huge fan or proud owner in the way some folk on here are.
Stuff like a rusty chain and leaking exhaust say he's not really into it.
Was more meaning the not servicing/ maintaining the mechanical side. Ive had a couple of rat bikes i really enjoyed.
Bike looks smart Froudy.
Love the Ena Sharples on the back seat :onya:
Hi Grog,
Was it an import? I didn't think we had FEs over here.
They will become rarer as they get written off and badly neglected, I don't like seeing
neglected ones, I can understand Tony's maintained rat but not performing the basics is sad to see.
Cheers,
Rick
