Title: Cam cover sealant
Post by: Gsxjohn on Saturday, 27 July 2019, 10:32 PM
A bit of advice please, I'm putting the covers back on my engine. It says to use Suzuki 1216B, what's an alternative sealant?
Cheers

I've never bothered & it's not leaked. I just smear a tiny bit of grease on it so it doesn't kink as it spreads under the load.

Any sealant that can cope with relatively high temps will do. Make it simple and get the one that has cam cover or something similar pic in the tube  :onya:

You only need to appy a very small amount of sealant to the "Half moons" when refitting the seal. I use silicone RTV..But only the thinnest of smears as you dont want lumps breaking off and blocking any internal oilways :onya:

I haven't had to take the cam cover off mine yet. but have used Threebond 1207B on my DRZ400 and WR450 and it has never leaked but wasn't cheap at $90 a tube. A mate of mine swears by a thin smear of Permatex aviation form a gasket.

That price is steep. Got mine for 21€ (35 AUD) which I thought was a lot already.
