First a disclaimer. I have very basic mechanical abilities so I apologise if my descriptions are strange.
I did an oil and filter change 40 km ago and since then, have noticed the bike is a bit smokey when cold.
It has 50000 km and a comprehensive service history.
I did the oil change to the letter with correct grade motul oil and a suzuki filter. After draining the old oil, I added 4200 ml of new oil.
Looking at the sight glass however, I fear I may have overfilled it.
Could this explain the smoke? It runs sweetly with no rattles or problems. Does smell a bit fuelly though.
Problem 2, the clock loses time over a week. Could this be the battery getting old? It has been very slightly harder to start lately.

Do you mean 4200 or 4800ml?
I would drain some out, as the sight glass does not lie & this is an easy option to start.
I remember putting in the 4800ml when I done my first change and it was too much. I now put just over 4000ml in and top up after checking a bit later.
There are variables with people doing their own oil change, like warming the oil up before draining or doing it cold, time they leave it to drain out etc.(still some remaining)
I think it is overfilled from what you have said.
I always drain oil when engine is hot and every time I put 4800ml in it (new filter). Oil level reaches abouut 2mm below max mark after I start engine up to fill up new filter with oil and turn off the oil sign in dashboard.
Thanks for the replies. Smoke is from exhaust at start up. Remains for 15 odd seconds then goes.
If it is overfilled, will this cause any damage? Like I said, it's only done 40 km or so...
Being slightly overfilled will not cause any damage but on a run could blow excess oil into the airbox so if you can drain out a little I would.
Check the window if you sit on the bike and lean it to the left slightly while looking at the window you will see if the level changes then if very over full take a little out if only very just to full run it as is .

Mine normally takes a bit under 4.5ltr for an oil & filter change, it seems to vary for others.
Sounds like you might be right on the battery too, if it starts resetting to 1:00 everytime you start the bike you know it's really near dying on you.
If the oil level hasn't dropped since you did the oil change are you sure that it is smoke and not condensation in the exhausts burning off? I would take the bike for a good run to blow the cobwebs away and try again the following day. Also starting and stopping the engine without allowing it to heat up fully on a regular basis will cause moisture to build up and you may start to see a milky colored film build up inside the sight glass
