Maybe I'm being a tad over-dramatic but...
(https://gsx1400owners.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.landyvlad.net%2Fpiwigo%2F_data%2Fi%2Fupload%2F2019%2F07%2F09%2F20190709193543-4f42094b-me.jpg&hash=501c59c41c5dd73d33eaa430019e3dd84254f4ca)
No I'm not cafe racer-ing it....
Riding on Coro Drive just before turn off to Hale St, my usual way home. I was in the correct lane, some clown (obviously wanting to be in the same lane) pulled in front of the car in front of me. It then had to slam its brakes. It had ABS, I didn't, I lost.
Long story short:
I'm OK. A bit sore but it's hard to know if that's new or existing pain :)
Bike survived but with a few issues:
- front guard (obviously).
- LH front footpeg (probably the hanger)
- LH R&G case slider. (Saved the case though)
- bent renthal handlebars
- Forks. This is, I think, the main issue. They aren't aligned. Not sure if that's all, or if the fork tubes have been damaged - no sign of seals leaking (yet). I know it's not just handlebars as with wheel straight ahead, top triple is slightly to the left.
I'm pretty confident impact wasn't bad enough to damage the frame at all.
I did manage to ride it home without too much drama. (After stopping once to reef the rear of the front guard away from the tyre).
I was lucky it wasn't much worse.
Anyway, now I have to take it somewhere on the north side for them, to tell me what's wrong with it (not the insurance mob at this stage I want to know what the ACTUAL issues are before I let those buggers inspect it.
Sigh.
I can recommend Adrian Cash from https://nsmctyres.com/ he's at Strathpine, is that near you Vlad ? :onya: :onya:
That's a real pisser Vlad, I would slacken off all the front end bolts and give the front forks a tweek it may be they have just been twisted in their clamps and will straighten up quite easily. Hope you get it sorted soon. Glad you are not hurt too much but at your age things will take a while to heal. :whistling:

Yep.
I saw just on the QBE website that THEY organise all the repairs.... anyone else with QBE can tell me how they do it? Do they not allow choice of repairer? I seem to recall the other claim I had with them they took it all the way over the southside somewhere and it took forever... that was a while back though.
Might be that the "excitement" caused an adrenalin (etc.) rise followed by a low. "Old" pain can creep up then. However, get yourself checked out!!!
Fork tubes should be checked for bend so you don't discover that later and have to pay out of own pocket.
That's a real Shit Vlad, but at least your in one piece. Hope you can get it sorted without to much frustration.
Sorry to hear about your crash. Pleased you're OK.
More and more tin cans have brake-assist. It seems to react to the speed brake pedal is pushed. Mate of mine demonstrated that to me with his 2 1/2 ton can. Boy, does it stop in a hurry.
What a bummer - could have been a lot worse :bugga:
Gutted for ya Mike. That right fork appears to have a big scrape on the chromed area, just above where the guard fits. If so, that area will probably end up as a new forks & head bearings.
Pleased you feel not too bad, see how you are the next morning.
Hope your ok buddy
I'd check the forks haven't twisted in the yokes as that can happen with things like this and losening everything then resetting can put that part back ok again .
Hopefully just some cosmetic bits a mudguard and a set of bars and all good again .

I didn't even notice that... just checked and can't see anything or feel anything.
I assume it just must be an artifact from the way the camera flash is reflecting from the fork tube...
In which case forks may be ok, in which case I won't have any excuse or money to do a USD fork conversion
Make sure QBE quote checking fork tubes. The slightest bend/crease in them buggers the seals. I learned this the hard way. :onya: :onya: :onya:
Check the bottom yoke too, they appear quite easy to bend in a crash from other damaged 14s I've seen.
What a shitter
@VladTepes :furious:
I bet you're sore this morning! Hopefully the bike will be able to be fixed without too much drama..AND you'll heal fast too :onya:

He lives up the valleys its the time difference :)
Bike shop says forks OK just unaligned (sorted now) but I will get insurance to check all the things mentioned as well, of course.
They gave me a estimate/quote that it would cost $2,300 to fix all the cosmetic damage (minor things but lots of them).. It does add up in a hurry for sure.
Top box additional to that if I can convince insurance to come to the party ;)
The worst thing is no choice of repairer which means I'll get like for like (in theory) - same renthal bars - I'd rather have the money to get some fat bars :)
Clutch switch failed when I tried to ride away - no go, so they did a bypass on that for me for now.
@gsxbarmy - I don't suppose you have a link for those LED indicators you sent me so I can argue to get some decent ones as replacements ?
I probably have Mike, just away at present and not back until Tuesday evening, so will have a look then as if I have the link it will be on my PC.

That says days not decades!
Well the repair place the insurance use has come up with a ballpark for me of $4200
A bit different but they are planning on doing everything possible subject to insurance approval such as sending wheel away to check no damage a full workover of forks to check straight and will replace seals in any event... Repaint pieces of bodywork which are scratched replace pegs for same reason... Maybe even replace top box. That'll be twice in one year... Hopefully won't be a third time LOL
Let's cross fingers insurance approve it.
Insured for $8k so should be fine from that angle.
Get your moneys worth because you know your premium will sky rocket after this dude :happy1: :happy1: :happy1:
For a little crash.....that sounds like a lot of damage.
Suprised they didnt write it off economicaly
Hope you will be riding soon.
Just over 4 when it's insured for 8, you'll be getting very close to 'cut off' at that percentage. Hope it all comes out good for you Mike.

is that at 60% ? :)
They will probably say "Write off" and offer you an amount plus keep the damaged bike to repair yourself.  :frustrated:
They've authorised repairs. :boogie:
Cool
Great news Mike :onya:
Great News :clapping:
You're on a roll Vlad. Now take on Mister Plod and tell them to jam their ticket. Did you contact the lawyer Andrew Wiseman I recommended ? :frustrated: :frustrated:
Not yet mate, not yet.

When I had my little "off" on ice back last winter (front wheel lost grip at trundling speed 2-3mph) The bike went down on the left side.
Damage..
Dented tank where switch gear hit it.
Scraped headlight rim.
Scraped clock covers.
Scraped clutch lever.
Bars and forks twisted in yokes..Realigned easily enough.
Generator casing cracked and peeing oil out.
If I had replaced all the damaged parts it would have worked out at over £1000. It doesn't take much to rack up a huge repair bill. If the insurance companies get involved, then it's usually deemed to be an uneconomical repair and written off.

I can vouch for that too!
This is why the insurance doesn't know mine has ever been on the floor.
Well, I got a note from the Insurance company saying they authorised the repairs on 24 July and that repairs will take from 4 to 6 bloody weeks from that date and even that is "subject to parts availability"!
So assuming all parts are available I may not get the bike back until 4 September ! and not before 21 August.
:furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious:
So no riding in that time... can't even have a birthday ride :(
I have no idea why it would take 4 weeks, let alone 6, that's just stupid.
I suspect they have a backlog of work and because the insurer won't let anyone else do the repairs then its just stiff shit for customers...
THIS is why I need a DR650 (http://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=4445.msg57895#msg57895)(or any other motorbike) for just such times as these.
Naturally she said :wife: which was clearly a no.
No matter what the question, another bike is always the answer.
What about the Landy? Come on - show it a bit of love & take it to work for a few weeks. :whatever: Could always put the Honda back together now you have some time . . . :whistling:

Come on Vlad, man up just tell your wife you are buying another bike, you are the MAN of the house after all. :whistling:
It's taken quite a while to land this one - don't need to go buggering it all up by being 'the man' of the house, you'd end up being 'the man alone in the house' . I think he gets a pretty free hand, but maybe there's a difference in fund allocation priorities; - she said NO!
Mine often says NO. Im old, hearing must be faded. , new toys arrive, only a day or two, maybe hairdresser, fingernail job, shes over it. Just how i do it. My approach Vlad, tell her youve found a bargain, will get me thru no bike, just needs TLC, then can sell for a profit. Will work a treat.
Rang the repairers today given its been 4 weeks and they tell me they still have some bits on order and it may be "a while" yet.
Evidently a replacement top box has been approved. I said I'd be happy with the money for that and could sort it out myself. No we have to replace it.
They also a trying to track down LH engine case thingy and mirrors. I told them I could try to source the former (through here) and the later from ebay.
Know we have to source them ourselves.
FFS talk about making things difficult (and take longer) for no reason.
Insurance company is probably scared someone else might make a dollar Vlad.
IMHO this is part of the whole industry problem and why premiums are so sky high. Like someone quoting $2,000 for a service then is told the grubernment is paying. Oh now it's $20,000. :confused1: ??? :mwink:
This is a problem across the world .
20 years ago insurance was a service that was provided to motorists same size vehicle with same age rider was same price per year (slight changes up and down in costs for good( no accidents) or bad (claims on the policy) driving)
Now days insurance is a big market where premiums change hourly depending on how much risk the market faces .
Licence to print money for the companies as it's a legal requirement to have it to be on the road.
:frustrated:
Just stop paying the mongrels. F##k 'em. But that's not an option for most folk. Is for us in NZ though.

Just been looking at the front cover of Bike magazine, September 1976
haha if only they knew what we were in for ! Obviously the answer is ... NO.
Apparently get my bike back next Thursday.
FINALLY
Haven't ridden for >2 months..
Can't wait. :boogie:

I am very pleased for you VladTepes..
Just think after that amount of time you will "rediscover" the joys of your bike..
Blime if I haven't ridden for a week or 10 days due to bad weather mine feels extra smooth, extra responsive and extra quick !!
I didn't ride a bike for a couple of weeks once.
I think it was June/July 2004.
I was traumatised.
It was awful.
Now you be careful Vlad. Clutch is on the left, brake on the right. Just in case youve forgotten.
When you collect it ask what they are doing with any damaged but repairable or useable parts... ;) :whistling:
I won't get the chance mate as they are sending it to team moto Virginia for pick up. But yeah I'd bet they are making some $ on that too.
Oh well at least the bike is fixed.
You'll have to check the 'fix', as sometimes 'professional workshops' are not a careful and thorough as you'd expect them to be, just sayin . . .
Indeed.
I've had bikes "fixed" at a couple of different places.
One place, Sydney City Smash Repair, among a multitude of sins, forgot to reattach the rear brake pedal.
Another place, Collide-a-Scope, didn't bolt in the dash.
A third place, now since long out of business, used second hand and third party components, ran up the decals on thier office printer using spray adhesive and clear coat to stick them on, and somehow managed to put 600kms on the clock. All while charging for brand new OEM parts and First Class Paint.
Well couldn't pick it up yesterday as they close earlier than I thought, so Saturday it is. That's tomorrow ! :boogie: :boogie: :boogie: :boogie: :boogie:
Bet you can't wait Hope they've done a good job :onya:
YEAH BABY I'M BACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The bike seems fine.
Except that when I picked it up they wheeled it around to me already running. I jumped on and rode away.
Next place I stopped - went to leave and nope... It was trying to start but the starter clutch wasn't engaging or something.
Fortunately - depending how you look at it - I was at a bike accessory shop. (AMX at Virginia - great place).
Battery tester showed battery cactus, completely.
At a guess, it was on the way out, and sitting at the repair place for 6+ weeks without being cranked over, did it no favours.
I am suspicious that where I picked it up from - Team Moto Virginia - likely would have had to jump start it and didn't tell me...
Anyway, I bought a battery to add to the new gloves I'd already purchased. And she cranks like a demon.
Did a short ride to Redcliffe, gave it a hiding a few times just to feel that TORQUE, at grabbed lunch.
It's great to be back on board :onya: :onya: :onya:

Good news mate. Hope you get the re training wheels off soon.
Sophies just seen the photo of your bike Vlad and commented on the wheel colour..
She wonders if she has an Oz cousin?
On a different note do you reckon I need therapy ?
Great it's back and looking good even if it the wrong colour :)
